Oscars 2019
« on: February 24, 2019, 01:45:22 pm »
Discuss.

I've only seen Black Panther of the best picture nominees, really good superhero flick.  Every year now most of the good films come out too late in the year to watch them all or even most.

Personally i think all of these awards are meaningless and is just a fun night to celebrate the industry.

In order to cut down on time, i really wish they would cut "best animated short" from the show.  Nobody cares, nobody will watch any of those films or have ever heard of them.

I disagree, there are are a lot of categories that don't really interest me but that doesn't mean they aren't good or worthy.

I haven't bothered with wasting time on the Oscars in years. Apparently last year was the worst. Did they do any better this year ?

Apparently Spike Lee finally won though.

I had it on while I was reading stuff for work.  I didn't know it was on until after it started, so I missed the Queen performance. :(

For me the highlight was Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper singing.  I also liked Lady Gaga's speech, and the English lady's speech had me in giggles.

After the awards I am more interested in watching the Green Book. I didn't know much about it, but it sounds like something I would really enjoy.  I might also give BLACKkKLANSMAN a look.  I found the name really offputting and assumed it would be something horrible, but with a better feeling for what it's actually about and the style of the film, it actually sounds pretty interesting.

Has anybody seen Roma?

Missed Queen as well but it is on YouTube. Gaga, Maleck and Lee all made good speeches but Olivia Colman was the highlight. This is one year where I might to out of my way to watch all of the best move nominees even though I'm not really into superhero movies. Bohemian Rapsody and The Favourite definitely, Black Clansman and Green Book probably, Black Panther, maybe.

Was Solo: A Star Wars Story up for any Oscars?  That was my favourite show of the past year.

Best Actor/Actress Depicting an Alien Race?   Best Less-Than-Original ScoreBest Movie with Woody Harrelsen?

Did it win any of those awards?  Even if it didn't, I still liked it probably more than it deserved...

Solo was a fun movie.  Not great but enjoyed it, would have watched a sequel.
