I like it.  I thought part of the reason for choosing a name that starts with "E" was so that they could keep using the classic "EE" logo, but perhaps they can still incorporate it onto the jerseys.

The Edmonton Eskimos football team was originally named after the Edmonton Eskimos rugby team, who got the name on a trip to Calgary when a Calgary sports-writer called for the local side to "send these eskimos back to the tundra from whence they came!" sometime in the 1890s. The name stuck.

I read today that at some point the Edmonton Eskimos rugby team was later renamed the Edmonton Elks, so this seems fitting.

I'm guessing they kept the E so that they can cash in on vintage gear using the EE logo in the future and not have it completely outdated.

Makes sense. Why not?

Canada beats Mexico 2-1 playing in frozen Edmonton in the CONCACAF soccer tournament to qualify for the World Cup!

Canada hasn’t lost a game yet this tournament and it’s more than half done!  This could be the greatest year for Canadian soccer ever…. It might already be that, unless they tank the next few games, which seems unlikely.

Great game last night.  Canada has a great team led by superstar Alfonso Davies.

After 8 games, Canada leads the tournament!

I couldn't watch the game because of baby stuff but man, we WON.  Is Canada actually GOOD at soccer ?

Could this turn the tide for those against immigration ?!?

Given the changing demographics of Canadians I think we'll keep getting better at soccer.

Canada beats the USofA 2-0 in the latest WC qualifier!

3 games left, and Canada is sitting on top of the tournament standings!

This would be the first time since the 80’s, and 2nd time ever, that Canada has qualified for the World Cup.

Just getting into the tournament is probably the biggest thing to happen in Canadian international sport outside of a men’s hockey gold medal.

Seemed relevant.

I've been thinking this for years.

A little more curious is why little kids - 8 years old - that come from Scotland, Sri Lanka, Nigeria - are ALREADY superior to Canadian kids.  And does this also mean that Canadians will indeed be getting better ?

Curious

Simple.   Better coaching.

Here, any mom/dad can coach kids’ soccer, even if they know nothing about soccer.  I bet that doesn’t happen in Scotland.
