I like it.  I thought part of the reason for choosing a name that starts with "E" was so that they could keep using the classic "EE" logo, but perhaps they can still incorporate it onto the jerseys.

The Edmonton Eskimos football team was originally named after the Edmonton Eskimos rugby team, who got the name on a trip to Calgary when a Calgary sports-writer called for the local side to "send these eskimos back to the tundra from whence they came!" sometime in the 1890s. The name stuck.

I read today that at some point the Edmonton Eskimos rugby team was later renamed the Edmonton Elks, so this seems fitting.

The Twitter cesspool seems to be angry that elks isn’t the plural of elk.  These people don’t own a dictionary and can’t use Google.

They are also Maple Leafs fans.

Other s'es are creeping in. I am hearing aircrafts more often. The plural of aircraft was always aircraft, just like watercraft.
