F1 drivers experience up to 7G cornering and 5G braking multiple times a lap in cockpit temperatures up to 50 C while driving 1000hp cars that weigh about 1500 lbs at the limit for two hours without a break while wearing multiple layers of fire proof clothing.  They lose an average of 4KG in a race. So ya, to do that, you have to be an athlete and a damn fit one at that.
You have to be fit to dig ditches too. Doesn't make it a sport.

If it's on a Sports Show then it's Sports, ie Sports is self-defined.

Darts is sports
Poker is sports
and... unbelievable as it seems...
CURLING is sports

It would be if a bunch of people were all digging ditches, and the first one to finish won a trophy.

Some people would watch it too.  Especially if they were allowed to swing the shovels.

Why wouldn’t competitive ditch digging be a sport, it would take strength, stamina and technique to win. How is that not a sport? How do you define what is a sport?

What is a sport has more to do with our personal prejudices than what it actually takes to compete at something.

Here’s a great article about the racism that is endemic to hockey.  This guy is a hero for speaking out like he is.

What a horrifying story.

Yeah, I couldn't read past the first few paragraphs.  I grew up in an environment where cruelty to children was pervasive.  The sports entertainment industry pushes narratives that equate achievement with moral living.  It makes me physically ill sometimes.

Thanks for posting.

Seems like a team with any kind of aboriginal name is fair game these days.

Too risky for a new megabuck team.

So there’s controverses over the name Totems?
