F1 drivers experience up to 7G cornering and 5G braking multiple times a lap in cockpit temperatures up to 50 C while driving 1000hp cars that weigh about 1500 lbs at the limit for two hours without a break while wearing multiple layers of fire proof clothing.  They lose an average of 4KG in a race. So ya, to do that, you have to be an athlete and a damn fit one at that.

Has anyone watched F1 on Netflix? It is a great series on the inner workings of the teams and the sport's personalities, the pressures of performing in a megabuck sport where the top teams have over 400 million dollar budgets to put two cars on a grid and wrecks can cost millions, plus the intense competition to be one of the 20 people in the world who can sit on a Formula 1 grid. I was quite surprised Netflix got that kind of access.

Yeah, I liked it a lot.   Very interesting.  Guenther Steiner makes for great TV! 

Just watching race re-runs on YouTube this a.m.

Did you hear that Vettel has left Ferrari, maybe to retire, Sainz is going to Ferrari and Riccardo to McLaren. There is also a lot of talk Alonso will be going back to Renault.

Yeah, I've been keeping up with it.  Interesting.  Would be a strange move for Alonso to come back.  Can't see Vettel going to a small team...  maybe Renault if Alonso doesn't go there.

Season 1 was ok but ... watching guys angling for 5th place seems a little weird ...

The financial inequity is something they are trying to change. The top three teams, Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull have budgets of well over 400 million, the next two, around 250 and the rest less than 200, some, much less. Fourth place is a win in a system like that. Teams that have dominated in the past like McLaren, Williams  and Renault are at a real disadvantage these days.
