I've taken up brewing my own Kombucha. A fermented Tea, that when carbonated, tastes a lot like soda without all the added sugar.

It's quite easy.

We do that too.  (well, my wife does)

Our own ginger beer and kefir, too.

Like you say, it's not that hard.  Apparently.
