Guess what - this isn't a necessary military activity.

People compete to be on this team, they aren’t stupid and they know the risks. In fact, the reason they are selected is because they aren’t stupid, they are highly disciplined and because of their ability to perform under pressure. This is at the top of their profession and why they want to do it. Don’t feel sorry for them, they are exactly where they want to be.

I wonder what the accident rate is for geese in formation.  Seriously.  Advantage is they can probably clip wings and not die.

If someone wants to risk death, I don't care.  You just have to make sure they don't hurt bystanders on the ground if they crash.

Airshows in Canada with no participation from Canadian forces sounds like a great idea. 

I never said that at all.  Air shows don’t need high risk maneuvers to be interesting.
