What purpose does the Musical Ride serve?

Good question. My answer would be...none.

Horses dancing and prancing.  I love me some ponies.

Seems like most countries support things that are part of their identity but don't serve a practical purpose. WTF is Canada's problem or do we believe we really don't have an identity?

We do have an identity - like I said before, I'm just not sure you and I'd agree on what that is.

What is it to you then and does it include anything that isn't a practical necessity?

We have new things to celebrate - an identity that evolves all of the time. We are the most diverse western democracy on the planet. We are the closest things to the song Imagine (with a long way to go). Some of these relics from the past, like the musical ride and the Snow Birds just might not fit that (each for their own reason).

So nothing then.

Judging from the Security Council vote, the rest of the world is less than impressed.

This coming from a guy who not long ago defended Canada spending 10 million dollars to renovate 24 Sussex because it was part of our heritage.

We have new things to celebrate I agree.  But we also have a history and heritage to celebrate.  Just because some new Canadians might not "get" the musical ride is no reason to cancel it, it's a chance for them to learn about it.  The Snow Birds is a different case because you're talking about people dying and a public safety issue, not just prancing ponies.

If this is indeed how you think, you and your boy JT are literally trying to destroy many parts of Canadian culture and heritage in order to remake it into the "post-national state".  The Liberals have been doing it for years.  The CPC even had to restore the name "Royal" to our air force and navy after the Liberals nixed it.  It irks a lot of the Quebecois anti-monarchists in the Liberal Party.  Too bad for them we're a constitutional monarchy with a Queen as our head of state.

Our identity has always evolved and it will continue to evolve, incorporating different cultural elements along the way.  But you don't erase key heritage from the past just to be more inclusive. Sometimes you can make reasonable accommodations here and there, but you don't destroy the whole thing.  If you invite me into your house, i'm not going to start telling you to change your drapes because they don't suit me.

This kind of thinking you display is a disgrace to our country.  Both my grandfathers fought in Europe during WWII defending this country, meanwhile Trudeau gets spa and massage sessions on the public dime, and I'm going to keep defending this country my kin risked their lives for from attitudes like yours.

Last I checked, 24 Sussex wasn't killing pilots of enslaving animals.

I've changed my mind on that. Sell 24 Sussex, and build an entirely new mansion at Harrington Lake.

I actually wish I could rate this dumb more than once. Maybe I'll make several accounts just to do it. No one tell the moderator.

Killing pilots is a bad trade-off for heritage i agree.  But I don't think horsey clip-clopping around in circles is considered cruel treatment of animals.

The interior of this country wouldn't have been explored by Europeans or natives if Europeans hadn't brought horses over from Europe. Canada has no native animals that were domesticated, not for farming/livestock or transportation.  Which is why natives had to rely on canoe/boat along rivers/canals/lakes for travel.

I'm sure granny wants to abolish the musical ride and the RCMP themselves because they are colonial institutions.  Might as well burn the flag and Parliament Hill too, they're a symbol of colonialism too.  See what I mean?  Thinking like this has the intention of destroying Canada.  It's all a cruel colonial institution of exploitation.  Canadians have obviously done horrible things, but like WTF.  F*ck Sir John A, screw the musical ride & the RCMP, screw the snow birds, screw the national anthem that's offensive gotta change that, screw the Royal Canadian Air Force and Navy, screw the Queen, screw Don Cherry, screw everything Canada.  Is maple syrup offensive yet?  Is tapping trees for sap harming them?  Should we ban poutine cuz it's bad for people's health?  Calgary Stampede is cruel to animals, let's ban that?  Thanksgiving is cruel since it kills turkeys, let's ban that?  The Hudson's Bay Company slaughtered beavers and exploited aboriginals, let's shut down The Bay. Inukshuk's are cultural exploitation, ban that.

Being in the military kills pilots. Being in the military carries an element of risk that other occupations don’t unlimited liability is what you sign up for when you join the military.

Guess what - this isn't a necessary military activity.
