I'll just say that I think each of us is often guilty of setting the tone of the conversations we're involved in.  Not always, but often.

Despite how often we would clash, I really liked Argus most of the time. In terms of conservative posters, he was often the most tolerable. I liked reading his ideas to get a sense of how people outside my political stripes feel about things.

Damn shame you animals scared him away.  :P

SJ contacted me privately after we clashed over the Eliza Dushku thing. He was quite upset that I'd told him to "do a backflip into an empty pool". We patched things up, but he'd told me that he'd grown tired of the tone here-- constant personal attacks and hostility directed at him-- and decided he just wasn't having fun participating here anymore.

 -k

It was getting pretty bad.....one or two people put the "Dumb" rating on everything he wrote.  No explanation of why they thought it was dumb and no rebuttal.

I didn't agree with everything he said, but he always made his counter-points clearly and reasonably.

I think it started when one poster constantly disagreed with him by making out that he was a depraved lunatic with no morals or decency and then a couple others jumped on that bandwagon and he couldn't say anything without being attacked on a personal level.

He's principled, even if he finds ways to reframe the principles so he doesn't have to live up to them  ;D

Also he can articulate ideas and make you think.  This is what I would look for in a true leader of a Conservative party.  A vision of what should happen combined with a real idea of what is politically possible.  Populists are panderers and exploit the worst ignorance of their followers.

That goes for Liberals as much or more than Conservatives btw.

A little too alt. right and bigoted for me. He'll fit in well at mlw though.

Doesn't surprise me.  He was involved in a lot of back and forth insults with some people here, he was part of that though.  He should have just reported the insults and not fired back with more of his own, just caused more misery for himself probably.

He’s his own worst enemy...   long live SJ!

I'm considering not posting on 'the other website' again. It is full of personality conflicts. This one seems to be far more professionally run. Good job all!

First of all if I may, I'll say welcome. I've spent time on both sites but I prefer this one by far. One of the main components here of what you refer to as "professionally run" is that you don't have a heavily right wing biased moderator ready to whack you with a hammer if you dare differ politically. Or even if you throw out a swear word. As a result it seems to me the members regulate themselves pretty well. A lot of the members here flew the coop over yonder for the very reason you mention.

Again, welcome.

What is this "other place" people keep talking about? This is the only website I've ever been to.
