Seasons Culture
« on: September 08, 2020, 09:53:53 am »
So ... little Easy is quite mobile now, which means I am jazzed about walking which means I am SUPER jazzed about fall.

When I smoked cigarettes I used to get jazzed about walking around and smoking.  Then I got jazzed about having a kid... now I'm jazzed about walking around with him and getting all autumnal.

What about you ?

Pumpkin ?

The fall is ok here. Up until October. Then the rains begin.

Spring and summer are the times to get outside here, without having to wear waterproof everything.

Don’t get e wrong....  it’s still paradise...   just not as much.

Fall for me means mushroom picking season.   Although with all the rain this summer, the season is very early this year and the mushrooms are in lovely shape...  very dry.

Wilber warned me about that...  but I’m here to tell the tale after eating what we picked!

If you know what you’re doing, it’s safe.  If you step out of your knowledge zone, then you can get into some trouble.

For me, I am 100% confident with chanterelle, cauliflower, lobster, morel mushrooms and chicken-of-the-woods.  If I find pine mushrooms, I bring them to someone who knows this stuff better than I.

I do know a few others, but some I just don’t prefer to eat, or never find them.

My pecking order for seasons is spring, summer, fall and winter.  I love the colours of the fall but the days start to get dark and since I loathe winter, it feels like the beginning of the darkness.  Not my thing, but a cool sunny autumn day can be beautiful.

On the bright side, this may be the first winter I enjoy.  For the last 10 years I've worked with companies with dec 31 fiscal year end and Christmas holidays are very stressful and January is just brutal.  This year I can maybe finally put up the lights early and go out and play carefree in the snow with my kids.

I'll report back on my first non year-end winter.
