If you know what you’re doing, it’s safe. If you step out of your knowledge zone, then you can get into some trouble.
For me, I am 100% confident with chanterelle, cauliflower, lobster, morel mushrooms and chicken-of-the-woods. If I find pine mushrooms, I bring them to someone who knows this stuff better than I.
I do know a few others, but some I just don’t prefer to eat, or never find them.
