Are you building a fancy library to impress visitors?

Lol no not at all, I just buy them with the intention of reading them and then get lazy and procrastinate until I buy the next interesting book.

Probably the worst thing about the pandemic (besides all the dying) is all those live guests on TV who have the bookcases of books behind them.  Like i'm not impressed lol.  Show us your kitchen or something lol.

Richard Burton's translation is incredibly verbose in a very Victorian manner. And it's 10 volumes.

1. In Cold Blood (for the third time, this time the unabridged audiobook)
2. Bing Crosby: the Early Years 1903-1940 by Gary Giddins
1. Read it !  Thoroughly depressing.
2. Did they cover his violent side also ?  I read Kitty Kelly's Sinatra bio.  That guy was a worse character than Trump.

Mostly career and music related, although his drinking affected that so it gets covered. But it does convey what a pivotal and massively influential part of 20th century American culture he was, even though he's largely only remembered for Road movies and White Christmas.

Sam Harris- The Moral Landscape

This should be required reading in Social Studies or ethics classes in high schools.

Arabian Nights
I was surprised by how fixated the author was on the sexual prowess of black men.

John Toland's biography of Adolf Hitler.

Second try.  I'll finish it this time.

If it weren't so racist it would be funny as hell.

I've now picked up Lives of the Caesars by Suetonius (Catherine Edwards, trans.) Love ancient scandal sheets. After that I'll continue Lord Norwich's Byzantium series (I finished vol. 1).

On the side I'm reading one of the Navajo police mysteries by Tony Hillerman. I've already read the first, The Blessing Way and almost finshed the second, Dance Hall of the Dead.

Any of you use Goodreads.com?

I just started reading Advise and Consent by Allen Drury (1959). I'm not sure if the book is popular outside of the United States, or not.

I also picked up Tai-Pan by James Clavell (1966) about the founding of Hong Kong, this one is on deck. Next I am going to finishShogun; I got about 2/3 of the way through that one. In fact, I have a couple dozen books I started but never finished: among them, The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett.

Let me know if you're on goodreads.com and you want to see my books I've read/want to read/am reading.

I'm actually really plowing thought A&C. I usually take forever to read books, particularly long books with complex plots. Hence, why it took me a helluva long time to read The Lord of the Rings.

Some people aren't readers of books, some are. Not because they're less intelligent, just because they don't have the patience to sit and read. I've got so many half-read books I lost patience with in the past; now that I seem to focus a bit better I'm set on finishing some of them.

Then I'll pull the trick of trying to read two books at once, like I'm doing now....as long as they are different in some ways I can get away with doing that without mixing the plot lines up in my head.

What stuff do you like to read on the internet mostly?
