Documentaries

I really like documentaries, but didn't think it fit too well with either Netflix or TV, but maybe a new thread would encourage sharing of good documentaries.  I have a subscription to Curiosity Stream, which I am really enjoying.  In case you aren't familiar with this service, it's strictly documentaries on a variety of topics, although none are of the 'sensational' type, like Intervention or Hoarders.   I also like The Passionate Eye documentaries, and the new one on CBC recently called Interrupt This Program.

Anyone, I wanted to share about one I watched yesterday on Curiosity Stream called "Predict My Life", which is about the findings of a research project following 1037 people from their birth in 1972 onward.  This research has helped scientists understand more about how nature and nurture interact, how early a 'criminal' can be predicted, or how/when a schizophrenic can be identified, among other things.   If anyone is interested in what can influence or motivate a person's behavior, this program is well worth finding and watching.

Well, I already posted about The Vietnam War - documentary by the Ken Burns team.  I also enjoy the films and documentaries by Werner Herzog.  I have seen a few by Vice TV which were excellent too - especially the older one where Shane Smith snuck into N. Korea.  Some Vice material is garbage, though.

Can you tell me more about Curiosity Stream, dia?  I sometimes see ads for it on Youtube, promoting National Geographic type content.

I'd say the quality of the videos on CS is at least as good as Nat Geo content, but more wide ranging - more like the variety found on Ted Talks.  The docs range from a few minutes to a couple of hours and the cost is similar to Netflix.  Here are a couple of screenshots to give you an idea of the content.

Is it a Youtube channel? A website? A paid streaming service?

It's a paid streaming service, accessed via a website or app on your device.  My LG TV also has an app for it.

I first checked it out about a year ago, and it didn't have much content so I didn't sign up.  But when I checked back a month or so ago there was a lot more that looked interesting to me, so I took the plunge so to speak.
