Pro Wrestling Culture

Back in Winnipeg, when I was a young lad, I was into AWA Wrestling which was the big promotion before the WWE came in January 1986, and stole their TV Contract, and signed a deal with the Winnipeg Arena that pretty much eliminated the AWA in Manitoba, as they could no longer use the main venue in town.

Having said that, look at this match from 1985.  Champion Rick Martel defending his title against the legendary heel Nick Bockwinkel. I am unsure how to embed videos on the forum, so I guess you fine people will have to click on the link to see this classic.

Baron von Rasche, using just one hand, was the greatest athlete who ever lived.
"I have worked hard to represent people of all backgrounds and I have always done so in a spirit of tolerance. My reference to the term 'tar baby' was a common reference that refers to issues that stick to one." - Pierre Poilievre

Lanny Poffo passed away at the age of 68.  Poffo went by the nickname "Leaping Lanny" before transforming into the hated "Genious" Lanny Poffo.  He joins his brother Randy "Macho Man" Savage in the ring in the sky.

When I was young All Star Wrestling was big in BC and Gene Kiniski was king. I remember seeing him J walk on Broadway St in Vancouver one day. He just stuck out his arm, started walking and everyone stopped for him. It was awesome.

Randy and Elizabeth died way too young.

A sad week in the World of pro wrestling.  Hard core legend Terry Funk passed away. He was 79.  I watched Funk in the 80s, when he briefly competed in WWE, and had feuds with the Junkyard Dog and Hulk Hogan.  Today Bray Wyatt, who was only 36 passed away. I didn't know much about Bray Wyatt, but it's tragic when anyone dies this young.

PS...why is the word "h a r d c o r e" banned?

I branded some of my wrestling figures when I was a little kid because of Terry Funk.  He was a legend!

I don't regularly watch WWE, but I saw one of their shows recently while I was housebound due to smoke.

I really like this Gunther guy!  "As a European, I am always excited to come to Canada!  But as I walked around this ugly town today, and as I look up at your sad faces tonight, I realize that what they say is true. Winnipeg really is the armpit of Canada."

And Rhea Ripley is so cute!

What about LA Knight?  He’s kind of an attitude era throwback.  Rhea Ripley is gorgeous!  So is Alexa Bliss.
