Let's see.... nothing about it discussed on MLW, nothing on my facebook pages, nothing on the mainpage of CNN.

Now, imagine if Muslims in Canada had tried this stunt.

Are we talking about making a woman move on a plane?  It's been discussed on MLW.  I remember using strong language to describe how I would have reacted were I the woman.

If the country where the perp came from had the death penalty for blasphemy and homosexuality, and his religion made a habit of driving around major European cities blindfolded, I daresay it would have been treated differently.  All things in proportion.

This new happening isn't there.

I don't think that explains why this story didn't get picked up.

It explains why it might have been picked up were the perp a Muslim.

As I said before, Muslims make the news because Muslims make the news.

I should add, I don't know what happened in this case.  I couldn't see the link.

It was a minor story.  And the idea that Muslims know there's a double standard reinforces my point that there's a double standard.

You don't think that's because the Haradim, **** that they are, don't generally try to blow up airplanes, do you?

Nobody tried to blow up a plane in this story.

It was a religious group making a fuss over a movie.

I would imagine lots of religious fusses don't make the news, or MLW.  I would imagine they would be more likely to if the religion in question kept itself in the news using much more than fusses.

Right.  So you're laying out how hysteria occurs.

No, I'm talking about how some things make the news (and MLW) and some don't.

Yes, exactly.  And people use the appearance of such stories as information, and basis ideas about policies on them.  A topic like religious accommodation needs a more balanced source of information than the media.

What other sources are there?

Again, I admit I didn't see the video in question, but really, if it stopped short of the use of a Catherine Wheel then they should probably just deal with it.  I am making the assumption, based on text in these posts, that it involved some kind of offense to sensibilities.

The public is a lot more sensitive to stories of religious Muslims acting up in aircraft or airports than they are to Jews, and this took place on an El Al flight. If it had taken place on a United plane I suspect it would have gotten somewhat more publicity.

Other than media ?  Well... would you listen to gossip ?

How about columnists, think tanks... smart people with well thought out opinions ?

Not gossip, no.  I figured columnists were the media, and if I was to hear from your last two examples it would only be through the media.

Add news alerts to Google that include smart people from both sides of the political spectrum.  Also think tanks and academic reports.

That way you won't have to suffer the gate keepers.
