Pain culture
« on: November 18, 2017, 01:04:06 pm »
The past couple of days I have been having serious pain in my head, right behind my left eye. It's not a regular headache. It's a really sharp stabbing pain that comes and goes, and a couple of times I have even seen "stars".  I have been able to make it through my work-day, but have spent most of my time at home trying to sleep.

Is this a migraine? Should I be worried?  Am I going to die? Could this be a tumor? I don't want to die.

When I was in a position that was stressful over a long period of time, I got similar pains.  Getting massages feom a kinesiogoist (sp?) helped.  When I switched jobs with less stress, that pain disappeared.

Of course, my experience probably has nothing to do with yours.  Have you seen a doctor or had your eyes checked?

Have you tried rehydrating?  I don't know where you live, but where I live, at this time of year the air is so dry headaches are fairly common if you don't up your water intake.

The previous comment was not intended to diagnose or cure any disease. I am not a doctor. But I know one.

although I am not bilingual, I am qualified and will stack my internet medical degree up against the best of them... since you will need to be referred by one of those uni-degree guys, get your blood tested as there are many blood reflecting deficiencies that could account for your kimmyache - presuming it continues/lasts. On the other hand, my Mayo contacts suggest you might have a cluster headache: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/cluster-headache/symptoms-causes/syc-20352080

Sounds like a migraine but I'd go see a doctor. The one aspect of our medical system which seems to work with few delays is getting CT scans. I was getting headaches a few years back and my doctor sent me to the hospital to get a CT scan. I went with an electronic reader, a few newspapers and change for the machines, ready for a long wait. I was in and out before my appointment time. It was that fast.

Of course, dunno what it's like in Kimmyland.

The barometric pressure affects people prone to migraines, too.  When it's low.

Also, yes.  See a doctor.

Also - Japanese Peppermint oil works great for migraines.  It has to be the Japanese peppermint, though.  Not just regular.  Trust me.  I'm a witch.  :)

Thanks to all the internet doctors for your suggestions.  This "cluster headaches" thing sounds like a possibility.  I will this discuss with my doctor this week  (I can already picture her cringe as she thinks to herself  "Oh great, she has been googling again.")

I am happy to report that I'm still alive, though just barely. Still feeling quite awful, although not as bad as before.

Doctors know about "Google MD".  I like to admit to my doctor up front I have been using it, with an apologetic look, and that clears the air.

I am back to normal. The episode consisted of a couple of days of pain, and a few more days of headaches that were more like regular tension headaches.  My doctor thinks it was probably a migraine.  She gave me a prescription for a powder of some kind.  I hope it's ****!

Do you know how to READ a prescription ?  Hold the paper up to your eyes and listen for the narrator voice in your head to read it to you.

Ok, I tried this.  Is the narrator voice supposed to sound like Homer Simpson?    Anyway, the voice told me that it's not ****.
