I've launched my little skiff this year, set my crab trap, staked out a spot at the dock just a short walk down the hill - I got a jump on the crowd early this year, it'll be my means of commuting to the bigger boats I run at work.  Start keeping an eye out for logs drifting by to fill up the wood shed with too. Bait is easy to come by, I know half the trawler skippers around here and they've just about always got something left over in the net that'll 'freshen' up the trap.

I'm sitting in my boat drifting quietly along with the incoming tide after having straightened out my crab gear.  Got three today after nothing all week...it's inexplicable!  I'm pretty sure I've got an enemy raiding my trap but I beat them to it today.  I think I'm going to get myself an attack drone.

If I said that I've never shat in the woods i'd be lying.

Beautiful, crisp (f*ckin cold) day of kayak fishing near Port Alberni.   Moderate success with rainbow trout.  No brown trout, like I’d hoped though.

Cameron!

Right next to the highway.  It’s a bit noisy, but still kind of nice.

Supply has been a big issue.  I’m going to upgrade to a different kayak, but they don’t know when the one I want will become available.   Been waiting a year!

Windy too. Your spot looks like its at the Cathedral Grove end.

Thinking of renting a camper for a week this summer.

Pray for me.

Just remember to leave enough room ahead of you for vehicles to pass and try to pull out from time to time to let the traffic that's building up behind you go by.

Happy trails!

The Squid went inland!  2 weeks this summer in the East Kootenays fly fishing and catching (and release) trout.

Camping in the boonies!

My takeaways:
If there was another place I could live, it would be the East Kootenays.
Rossland is a great little town with great people.
Fernie is too.
Sparwood is not, nor is Trail.

Fat cutthroats and huge bull trout were the attractions.

Beautiful freestone rivers.

But….  My Island has some amazing cutthroat trout fishing too…. If you know where to look.   I caught this guy on the weekend.

This is the best time of year for outdoors.  Not crazy hot.
