Honestly, Michael, don't watch it if you don't want to watch it. I already know how this is going to go.  You're going to watch like 20 minutes of it, and give up, and tell us that you couldn't get into it because "space ships aren't real" or something like that, and then you're going to be mad at us for talking you into watching something you didn't like.

Given your inclinations, maybe you just won't be able to get past the setting. But as I've said here several times before, fantastical settings and premises can be a powerful way of exploring moral dilemmas or our world or even ourselves.

I'm on episode 9 of Andor.  It has the potential of exceeding Mandalorian as best Star Wars show.  Book of Boba Fett was lame.  Didn't watch Obi-wan, looks lame.

I liked The Mandalorian.  It was the right show at the right time for this franchise.  After several years of negativity about everything surrounding everything Star Wars, Jon Favreau created something that was fun and energetic and reminded people why they liked Star Wars in the first place. It was a crowd-pleaser, and that was what they needed.

I think Jon Favreau "gets" Star Wars. I don't think Kathleen Kennedy and Jar-Jar Abrams "get" Star Wars.

There are no teddy bears in Andor. There's a charming stuttering robot, but that's it. I think what you'd like about it is, at its heat, it's a show about Bureaucracy.

I think Michael will be really interested in Major Partagaz' views on Agile project management and open environment workspaces.

Yeah.  Also Dave Filoni was a head creator on Mandalorian.  He worked with George Lucas on those Clone Wars cartoons, and Rebels cartoon series, which I've barely watched but aren't bad.  He's basically Lucas' protege, for better or worse.  He grew up a Star Wars kid.

At this point you have to be a Star Wars nerd to really "get" Star Wars.  But Rian Johnson was a Star Wars kid and his version of SW was...weird.  But i think the boardroom of Disney writers was heavy in on that script too, given the "Marvel humour" and woke politics inserted for no reason.

I think the Disney room of SW writers was also heavily into the script for JJ's movies too.  Favreau and Filoni care a lot more about making good Star Wars stories than inserting their 2022 political agendas into stories and characters and selling bedsheets to young girls.  They left them alone and they made good stuff.  Although Book of Boba Fett was lame.

I'm on episode 3 or 4 of Rings of Power.  It's boring.  Is it work slogging through to get to something better later in the season? I'm close to abandoning it.  I don't like shows that waste my time.

I found the first couple of episodes of Rings of Power to be very disappointing and I was quite worried about how the series would turn out.  But it did improve a lot as it went along. I was a huge Tolkien nerd when I was younger, which can be a double edged sword. On the one hand you're emotionally invested in the material and might be inclined to try to like it even if it's not very good. On the other, you might have different expectations from what most viewers might-- if the creators handle the material in a way that doesn't line up with how you see the source material, you might be overly critical.

Generally I felt like the show worked pretty well when the Galadriel story or the Elrond story were on the screen, but ground to a halt when the happy little hobbits were on the screen. I enjoyed the second half of the series once they got things rolling a little.

There was some amount of internet complaining about the multi-racial cast, but honestly I stopped even noticing after a while. At first I was like "this hobbit girl is as pale as the driven snow but her mom is African. How does that work? Is she adopted or something?" and the improbability of an inbred traveling tribe where everybody has different accents and ethnicity was a bit jarring at first. But after a while I was like "all these goddamned hobbits are just so annoying" and didn't even notice what their skin tone was.  At some point it becomes easy to just forget that stuff.

Honestly, Michael, don't watch it if you don't want to watch it.
I got enough recommendations with the right key words that I want to watch it.

But I only get one vote here.

I'm hoping to get Guardians of the Galaxy on the docket soon though.  I have a plan.

Wait.

Isn't that the superhero movie that you recommended to me here? 🤔

You'd think after personally being incited to riot on January 6 so much as to call for the rioters to "burn it down!" while it was happening, one would at least understand the dangers of being manipulated by misinformation.

It’s not misinformation.  You’d think being wrong so many times on claims of misinformation, you’d learn by now.

Yeah I wonder why.

If you don’t like Hancock’s story about the super-intelligent advanced civilisation being wiped off the face of the planet, here’s another that might explain how Netflix gave the greenlight to Ancient Apocalypse: the platform’s senior manager of unscripted originals happens to be Hancock’s son. Honestly, what are the chances?

Why thankfully?

It's garbage information...

You don't know anything about it.  From what I've read, some of it is based on geological weather from water not wind, which suggests that structures like the Sphinx are much older than previously thought.

But I love you you think this is garbage information, but Jesus being trans is a legitimate story.  Do you ever hear yourself?
