I'm on episode 3 or 4 of Rings of Power.  It's boring.  Is it work slogging through to get to something better later in the season? I'm close to abandoning it.  I don't like shows that waste my time.

I'm on episode 9 of Andor.  It has the potential of exceeding Mandalorian as best Star Wars show.  Book of Boba Fett was lame.  Didn't watch Obi-wan, looks lame.

I remember when somebody told me that about Return of the Jedi... fast forward to me sitting with my popcorn watching teddy bears blow stormtroopers away...

There are no teddy bears in Andor. There's a charming stuttering robot, but that's it. I think what you'd like about it is, at its heat, it's a show about Bureaucracy.

It gets good at episode 6.

Oh... there was a movie I saw at TIFF once called 'The Castle' I think... based on a Kafka book.

It was about bureaucracy and it was excruciating... like being in line forever at the Ministry of Transport and being sent to another wicket over and over.... and best thing was.... it just ENDED without resolution and then the words on the screen said something like 'Kafka never completed this work'.

HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH

So, yes, now I am curious.  Will be a tough sell but let's see.

There's not even a ton of Star Wars in it, a non-SW fan could enjoy this.  it's high quality writing.  They basically made a good tv drama set in the SW universe.  No lightsabers or Yoda's making rocks float.

Yeah, parts of it.  It's about the empire vs the rebellion, but drilled down to the micro level that can be explored in a series instead of just the large macro level that can only be explored in a 2 hour film.  The show explores the motivations of the rebellion and how it works from the top politically all the way down to the grunt level of al Qaeda-like "freedom fighters", their different motivations and ideology etc in pushing back vs a tyrannical government.  And on the flip side it explores how the Empire works as an organization and bureaucracy in trying to fight the rebels, and all the subtle political maneuvering involved within both the Empire and Rebellion.  So in that sense it has some Game of Thrones to it.

Lots of similarities to the real-world war on terror for sure.

Joan reminded me of my vow to NEVER watch another Star Wars movie when I brought this up...

She said "remember all the time we wasted on the last one ?"
Me: "the movie ?"
Her: "Yes"
Me: "You mean ... two hours ?"
Her: "Yes"

I said it would be a tough sell...

It's not a movie.

Did you see Rogue One (the movie)?  Best Star Wars film since the originals, this series is written by the same guy, and the Andor character(Rebel spy) debuted in that movie.  All the other Disney Star Wars movies are terrible, as a lifelong diehard SW they make me angry and sad.  So I don't blame you on that.

Here's a challenge:  watch Rogue One (the movie).  Or even go watch the trailer.  The film is really good, the audience in the theater i was at were cheering when the credits started to roll, it's nothing at all like the other Disney SW films.  If you don't like it, don't watch Andor.

1. Ok, well I already lost anyway.
2. Didn't see it
3. I'm still trying to get 'Guardians of the Galaxy' on the list from like two years ago... if I watch it, it has to be on my own time and I don't have time to watch it I just don't.
