I really have watched it over and over. It has the discipline of Shakespeare's iambic pentameter in that every word fits, both rhythmically and in rhyme. It has brilliant rhymes and melodies and themes for each character. I could go on.

If you like Shakespeare then we are brothers.

What made you want to see it ?

I'm a little intrigued now.  I don't generally like musicals but the ones that move me are at the top of my list of faves.  The Les Miserables that came out awhile back with Crowe, Hathaway and Jackman did it for me.

My “secret musical that I will never admit that I like” was Chicago with Geere, Zellweger and Zeta-Jones.

I really hated that one but I have a vague memory of hot women in hit.

Documentaries have always been this.

Well there's dry documentaries that just report facts, like a WWII documentary.  But now more of them seem to be op-eds rather than just reporting information.  The Michael Moore Effect.

Question for normies:
Why do you want to see Hamilton?

Seriously, why would anybody want to see a show that isn't even set in an office building??

We saw "Enola Holmes" during the holidays.  It stars Millie Bobby Brown as Enola, and Henry Cavill as Enola's older brother Sherlock.   Helena Bonham Carter also appears, as their unconventional and mysterious mother Eudoria.   When Eudoria disappears unexpectedly, eldest brother Mycroft determines that it is time to send Enola off to finishing school to become a proper young lady.  She escapes and sets out to find her mother. Along the way she becomes embroiled in another mystery involving a young Viscount who is supposed to be taking his father's seat in the House of Lords.

It was enjoyable, though a bit twee. It is as though Netflix felt like two of their biggest stars needed something to do while waiting for new seasons of Stranger Things and The Witcher to arrive.  Millie Bobby Brown is delightful and it was interesting to see Henry Cavill in a role where he doesn't kill anything or beat anyone up. One had the sense that his biceps might tear through the fabric of his period-appropriate Chesterfield overcoat at any moment, but aside from that he was fine in the role.

Seriously though.  Why do people think big theatre productions are so amazing?

I think it depends on the big theatre production. Some are more amazing than others.

Well you sound like someone who makes up their opinions with some thought.  Therefore probably not my target audience.

Starting with Phantom of the Opera in the 1980s, a type of tourist who was not interested in theatre in the least .... all of a sudden became very interested in theatre.  Now... Phantom was designed as a kind of spectacle and I understand that... but since then there have been a parade of shows that seem to appeal and some of them really make me scratch my head.

For example: a RAP musical about a rather obscure American history figure.

Why do they like this ?

I hate Andrew Lloyd Webber's work from what I've seen, so I never bothered to see Phantom.
Whether people like it all depends on whether there is pure genius involved in the production. A musical about a founding father that incorporates elements of hip-hop and modern vernacular would be absolutely terrible in most people's hands. But Lin-Manuel Miranda is a genius. You have to see it to get it, and it's so good that the more times you watch, the more you get.

You keep speaking like an intelligent person, considering the value of the artistic product on offer.

You are not a lemming, clearly.  I'm wondering about the lemmings and neither you nor I can help with that.

But since we're here... did YOU like Les Miserables with Hathaway et al ?

I had a hard time getting past Russell Crowe's singing so I never made it through, but I thought Anne Hathaway deserved the Oscar for her performance in "I Had a Dream." Not bad for one take.

Yeah I just loved it and I don't know why.

I watched this today and bawled.  I think I need a friend.
