Evil Genius....

This is almost the perfect true-crime documentary series IMO.  Some have said it's a little long at 4 episodes but I disagree.

Netflix recommendation:  "Read the Bible instead."

http://www.newsweek.com/boycott-netflix-michelle-barack-obama-deal-content-new-show-939417

Netflix has signed some sort of development deal with the Obamas, which has enraged conservatives. Dozens and dozens of them will be boycotting Netflix as a result.

lololololol!

Who is America ?

Sasha Baron Cohen but not Netflix.  Seems to be pretty diverse reaction to whether it's actually funny.  I had my jaw drop a few times that's for sure.

Remember when Netflix actually had a good algorithm for recommending movies and TV shows? It's utter trash now.

How can you even tell ?

I for one never understood it.

You liked "Breaking Bad" so here's a cooking show.

You used to do a survey and rate movies on a five point scale: hate it, dont’t like it, indifferent, like it, love it. After going through several movies and shows, it got pretty good at making recommendations for stuff you would like. Now it’s just thumbs up or thumbs down. It’s useless.

I can't even recommend movies for me, though.  But I like the idea of playing with a rating engine. But not enough to do the work.  But maybe if someone had told me about it I might have tried it.

Dave Chapelle - Equanimity and the Bird Revelation

Dave implicitly makes the most compelling and difficult argument for free speech with this one.  Unlike many who offend liberals, he is articulate, engaging, and even HUMANIST as he insults people.  In the end, he makes his case that there is no apologizing for being honest and human.

That said, he says offensive things about transgender folks and it's not for every taste.  It's a rare thing to be offended and to laugh your ass off.

Writing this now it seems I have distilled it to this:
Yes, he is offensive
No, he is not trying to foment hate
Yes, he is laughing AT something
No, he has no desire to make people feel bad
Yes, it is offensive

Yes, I want to watch it.  I see his position as unenlightened but admittedly so.  He can't stop from laughing at something even if it's sad for others.  It seems that these types of people are more likely to provide a bridge to dialogue than either bigots or demagogues.

It's getting harder and harder to believe SBC can continually pull this off.

I know, but people believe what suits them, I guess, and when they meet someone who seems to share those views they become very trustimg.   I have read reaearch showing that people are hard-wired to trust other humans, too - including those who seem to be from.the same ideological "tribe" I guess.
