'It Follows' is a very creepy psychological horror movie, which comes with a NEW kind of ghoul.  A kind of cross between a ghost and a zombie is out to get our teens.  It also comes with a nice and thoughtful sociological comment that I'll leave for you to discover.

Not Netflix, but HBO & Crave are doing it up for me right now:

- Broad City (latest season)
- Episodes (final season)
- Curb your Enthusiasm
- The Deuce
- Mike Judge presents Tales from the Tour Bus

I like/love all of these shows !

You said it.  I'm not sure if I will be able to function for awhile.  It will be very strange being in an office.

Only thing I have going for me is I was in the same boat last year and in a much worse situation, ie. over my head, and it worked out fine.

It addresses this "Canadian content" dilemna without imposing a tax on we the consumer, which I'm all in favor of.
Technically the tax is due. Every Netflix subscriber in Canada is required to calculate the GST and submit to the government. So if the government got Netflix to collect GST would not be a new tax on consumers. I would be just stopping all of those tax cheats.

Mindhunter !!!

Just found this last night.  I don't really like the 'true crime', or 'fictionalized true crime' genres.  I have come to hate exploitation of murder and extreme cruelty for entertainment purposes, especially for non-artful depiction.

This is about the development of criminal behavioural studies at the FBI, but so far (at least) they have emphasized the very basic human mechanics of the agents trying to figure out what the emerging field should be - in the 1970s.  This while the psychology and motivations... sexuality... parental issues in their lives hang around all of them like an invisible fog.

I know a show is good when I get sucked in, and I don't really know what I am watching but I want to know the end of it.

I'm always impressed by the work that goes into creating authentic settings for programs set in the recent past.   With things set far back in history, there's not nearly as much work, because there's simply not as much stuff to consider and because few in the audience would know the difference anyway. Nobody's going to be saying "This show is supposed to be set in the 10th century but these swords have the full-length fuller that Vikings weren't using until the 11th century. This is such a joke!"

Things set in the recent past, on the other hand, are full of stuff that many of the viewers will remember, sometimes fondly and sometimes with annoyance.  The potential for screw-ups, and for distracting the viewer with an incorrect detail, is enormous.  "That car was really expensive at the time. How could a struggling single mom afford it?"  and so on.

Jalopnik did a similar breakdown for the cars of Stranger Things:

I watched the movie Carol the other day, I've been meaning to since I saw Cate Blanchette promoting it a few years ago.  It's a lesbian love story which left me in tears several times throughout the movie.  It's set in 1950's New York and captures trials and tribulations of forbidden same sex relationships at the time.  The cinematography and costumes are stunning and the screenplay is based on Patricia Highsmith's novel.  The character of Carol is based on several women in Highsmith's own life and she herself is Therese.  I would recommend it.

On a completely different spectrum of genre, we've been binge-watching the seven seasons of Shameless and it's quite entertaining.  Some of the story lines are way too unrealistic but the casting is tremendous and the writing is pretty good.  We drink beer and sometimes start fighting and yelling just to relate to the characters.  Just kidding.  I think.

I've been watching The Good Wife.  I didn't watch it while it was on TV.  I think I'm in love.  I just adore legal dramas.

"Manhunter: Unabomber" - was very good, was recommended to me by some friends, show kept me hooked, and I find it rare to find really good shows but this was one. Unabomber was a complex character, very interesting guy, a mad genius.
