Ah yes, the old banning posters. The most idiotic thing ever, when Internet identities are a dime a billion.

You have to actively mask yourself if you're banned.  True that it's hard to detect, but still difficult to always keep it up.

This place is an echo chamber for Liberal views as much as MLW is an echo chamber for Conservative views. Sure there's less obvious trolling here. But this site is far less moderated, CA does a good job over there of keeping threads from getting completely de-railed. Not so much here.

People who leave a place of debate because they don't like how others debate are part of the problem. If people only discuss topics with people they agree with, they get a skewed sense of reality. IMHO.

Bingo.  MLW is FOX News, this place is MSNBC.  That's a sad reflection on today's political polarization. we're all part of the problem.

A lot of it comes from a lack of civility.  A lot of people don't just disagree with people with different views, they actively resent and dislike them as people, and so the insults starts...

I don't get this.  Someone who is smarter than me, but with different views can teach me a great deal.  I value such folks when I do find them.

You don't get mad or take it personally when someone disagrees with you.  This should be the norm, but it's not, people are human I guess.  You have no ego, which is a good thing.

A large part of what's happening here is my fault, and stems directly from my breakup and self imposed depression.

Depression isn't self imposed, nimrod.

1. You don't know what his biases are.
2. Everyone is biased.
3. Moderation is a service done to you for free.  You can complain but they're still cleaning up your messes.  Truly a thankless job.

I was a moderator on 2 or 3 boards.  It's shitty and the departure of productive posters from here is an example.

I like how points 1 and 2 relate to your perspective on point 3. I know your bias because you're demonstrating it there. Just like I know CA's biases because he demonstrates them. He's biased against reasoned discourse, evidenced by embracing wild-ass conspiracy nonsense. Since he can't recognize intelligent debate, because he's so entrenched in conspiracy nonsense, and since he's a self-professed anarchist, he values the trolls, seeing them as gadflies who stimulate discussion.

Now you tell me how this is a good recipe for moderation? MLW is what it is because HE made it that way. It's a clear reflection of his tastes.

Sometimes it can be.  ie: Consistent negative self-talk based on assumptions that's aren't logically true that only/largely you put in your own head.
