Labrador

I am working with a guy from Labrador. He has told me a lot about the region, and it seems like a really neat place to visit. Has anyone been to Labrador before?

Yes boy, I bin there. I had been working in Sept Isles PQ and all of a sudden I was told I had to go to Labrador to replace someone who had been injured. Off to Goose Bay and then up to of all places Makkovik for my first night. I was all over that coast in the following days. I even became a "Cardinal" which requires a certain amount of Screech intake.

Haven't been myself, but the two things I hear to look out for:

1. Black flies
2. Trucks on the long gravel road in, if you see one coming your way then slow down or stop and pull over as far as you can to the side. Otherwise you will be replacing your windshield.

Just stay up in the north part. Not a lot of roads to worry about.

Way back in the day I and two other guys got storm stayed on the Labrador coast in January. The weather was just crap and even though I knew we were somewhere near Hopedale I decided to shut it down. We set up shop on the lea side of a big hill to keep the onshore wind at bay. We cut down all the little fir trees that were available, sawed then into fire wood and built a fire. I opened up my survival kit and hauled out some bags of Louisiana Shrimp Creole, threw in some snow for moisture and boiled them up. Quite tasty actually. The 40 pounder of single malt helped as well and we sipped and stoked until we fell asleep in the Arctic 5 Star sleeping bags. In the morning the wx had cleared so I climbed up the hill to look around. And there was Hopedale on the other side of that hill.

My friend said that Goose Bay is better than Labrador City, although he may be bias, having grown up in Goose Bay.

Believe it or not but over the time I worked there, if I met you in Goose Bay but you were just visiting, I could tell where you came from on the coast, north or south, by listening to your accent. I really enjoyed my time there.
