I heard that there's a lot of homeless out in BC areas because homeless travel there because its much more mild in the winter, which makes sense because being homeless at -15 degrees would suck, not to mention harder to beg on the streets etc.

Is this true?

It certainly seemed so when I used to work in Victoria.

That, and the fact that Ralph Klein gave all the homeless in Alberta a one-way bus ticket to Vancouver.

Sure it's true, and for the very reason you suggest: it's warmer here in winter. Victoria has had a number of tent communities spring up at various times this time of year. A large one was set up on the provincial courthouse lawn. You may recall Mr. redneck Mayor Ralph Klein suggesting one time he was going to buy all his homeless population a one way bus ticket to get them down here.

How so? By cutting social programs etc?

But hey, if you liked Ralph you owe me one...actually two. I pulled him out of Minto Inlet twice when, as drunk as he was, he stumbled and flailed with his fishing rod into deep enough waters that his hip waders filled up. But that's another story.

By giving them bus tickets:

And when Klein gave Alberta welfare recipients one-way bus passes to B.C., the then-NDP provincial government responded with a three-month residency requirement for anyone who wanted to collect social assistance

Too bad we don't get to see the conclusion of that little incident.

I don't blame the camera operator for not following them to find out what happened next.

I am betting 15 minutes of two guys shouting "Come at me, bro!" at each other.

Yeah, what happened???  I'm with the Ford!

He used the left turn lane as a passing lane to blow through an intersection. That's ridiculously dangerous. He deserved worse than a box of fries in the face. He deserved a god damn Kim City ass-whoopin.

If blaming BC's homeless problem on a stunt Ralph Klein pulled 25 years ago makes you feel better, then go for it... but most of the deadbeats and creeps and scumbags I see around town were only old enough to be riding school-buses at the time.
