Jets' whiteout street parties...
« on: April 12, 2019, 03:43:33 pm »
...are offensive to non-whites????   Holy ****...

If it has gotten to the point where minority activist groups are complaining about the actual word "white" used in any context (in this case a metaphor for a snowstorm), then I guess these groups have absolutely no real issues to complain about any longer.  We have achieved equality, but now they need their pound of flesh.

Quote
Winnipeg's Whiteout street parties are attracting thousands of Jets fans downtown to celebrate their team, but for some people the image of throngs dressed head-to-toe in all white can be threatening.

Among them is Alexa Potashnik, the founder of Black Space Winnipeg, a non-profit organization that lobbies for safe spaces for Winnipeg's black community.

She posted a message on the group's Facebook page on Wednesday morning, ahead of the Jets' first game of the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs, suggesting the name of the playoff party be changed.

Along with it, she posted an image and the caption: "Have a look at these photos from past Jets pandemonium/fan appreciation. The four men wearing all white Jets outfits with pointed hoodies … remind you of anything?"

This Facebook post by Black Space Winnipeg has prompted a lot of angry responses. (Black Space Winnipeg/Facebook)
The Whiteout started back in 1987 as Jets fans' response to the Calgary Flames' Sea of Red during the playoffs. That was at a time when the Jets home colours were white, not blue as they now are, but the tradition has stuck.

I looked at the pictures in the article, and don't see "pointed hoodies" that remind me of "anything". Yes, it sounds like she has gone overboard.

It is nonsense.  The woman that founded this movement is of mixed race (part Russian Jew).  She's just an attention seeker.

HAHAHA She's also a rapper who goes by "MC Woke".

This is god-damned stupid and only makes people angry. If the only thing your "activism" accomplishes is to create backlash, then you're not really an "activist", you're just an idiot. Cybercoma will be along shortly to explain that she's actually creating awareness, but he's wrong. She's not creating awareness, she's creating antipathy.

Or you could just speak for me and make up some bullshit that I didn't and wouldn't claim. This is someone looking for an issue when there isn't one. There's enough actual violence and aggression towards minorities that we don't need to be making up issues where there isn't one.

While she's complaining about this, there's literal white supremacists gaining in strength and numbers across Canada, such that they're a growing concern for federal authorities.

Sure you would.  Every time one of these activists says something stupid, you're there to stick up for them.

These kinds of absolutes are well beneath you. It's not every time because here I am saying this one is saying something stupid.

If their team colours have changed from white to blue, shouldn't they be having a blues party? 😊

No, it's a busy off season with Myers, Chairot, and likely Trouba needing to be replaced. I'm still holding out hope they can sign Tanev. Plus a crop of RFAs, including Conner and Laine, it should last us till October.
