I came across this video last night. It's remarkable really only in how banal it is. It's Benjamin Shapiro giving a talk at the University of Connecticut. I don't think Shapiro is that great a speaker, really, and I didn't find any of his ideas to be really startling or even 'out there'. He starts off giving 'facts', which 'can't be contradicted' and this consists mostly of reciting statistics from government and respected academic studies on five social value topics.
Black crime and police shootings of Blacks.
Female economic inequality and '
**** culture' on campus
Abortion
Income inequality
Transgenderism
Then he gives his opinions which are derived from the data. Which are basically that Blacks being shot by police in statistically smaller numbers than they ought to be given the Black crime rate, that crime is related to unwed motherhood, that there is no female inequality or
**** culture, that abortion is bad, that inequality doesn't exist, or is largely the result of unwed motherhood, and that transgenderism is not scientifically valid.
The real marvel, though, is that he can only give his little talk surrounded by police and security - with many more outside. He's not accusing anyone, he's not making racist or sexist attacks on anyone, and he's not even talking politics, just social values issues from a conservative perspective.
The opening few minutes where he discussed the way people have gone crazy at the idea of allowing him to speak. Note how the whole front of the room is lined with police and security.
The full speech which I haven't finished
