These are bite-sized high level primers on topics.

https://www.youtube.com/user/schooloflifechannel/playlists

They don't substitute for actual knowledge but - hey - I'm not going to be taking a university course on David Hume so I may as well know *something* about him.

Scroll right on the playlists for topics like Western Philosophy.

Love this and it has made my Friday.

Seen some of those.  Not always entirely accurate, but hey they're cool.

I had a hunch that was so.  It seems like the character of the person figures into the philosophy every time, which is a little suspicious.

well, it can be pretty hard to summarize a philosopher's ideas.  Some people will interpret them differently or leave important things out.

Guys - this series has set me on a path to watching philosophy lectures.

Now I always felt stupid not being able to read philosophy but - guess what - Plato didn't read it either, he sat at the feet of Socrates.

There are many lectures out there that will fill you in on ancient wisdom :)

when I was a kid working weekends at the airport pumping gas in planes etc. I had a Fairey Firefly land to tank up. The driver gave me a tour and let me sit in the driver seat for a bit. It had a shotgun starter, which I had never heard of before, and oh oh, he ran out of shells. He had a plan B and asked if I could help. He squared up the prop and hung tires that were roped together on the blades and then I got into position with the company pickup truck. When he was ready I booted it and after about 3 tries the thing finally fired up and I gathered up the tires and threw them in the back seat. I had asked him if he would give me a fly by so I headed up to the north end of the runway and he came over me in about the same fashion. It didn't scare me as I knew he was coming but it sure as hell rolled me up in a ball. Alas, not video.

Was that the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum machine? A lot of those old fighters used Coffman starters. Early jets like this Canberra bomber also used them.

That particular plane was headed for Rockcliffe at that time.

Ricky is the only legit reason to watch the show.  The rest of it is Hollywood self-****.  The Oscars is worse, since it is Hollywood self-**** with a social justice twist and without the Gervais.

The great thing is Ricky can offend as many people as he wants because the stars keep coming back to attend the show every year so they can get on TV and/or accept their statues.

Ricky's night was a deft sidestep of the liberals, believe it or not.

He split the defense by going after Weinstein and thereby deflected his behavior with regard to trans jokes.  Well played.
