Well, it's a private network... are you saying it should be regulated by the government ?
I am saying the exact opposite. I just know how government works and Twitter can't ignore the risk.

They actually only have to make the mainstream happy, just like the TV networks did.  Nobody burned down CBS headquarters because they never put Chomsky on.
Different times, different rules. CBS exec could harass with impunity too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Moonves

What is needed today is a transparent and fair process because no fair process is going to produce outcomes that keep the extremes happy.
A transparent and fair process allows the company to claim the higher ground even as partisans howl.

The only people who are going to say it's unfair are a minority of far right kooks.  We don't need to accommodate them any more than CBS had to listen to the far left.

Your bias is showing. The perception is today among many moderate right wing people is that twitter, google etc are actively hostile to right wing views and this bias goes way beyond blocking kooks like Alex Jones.
These companies will face government regulation in the US if they don't address that perception.
The best way forward is a transparent and clear process that makes it hard for extremes to claim bias.

I didn't say that twitter is or isn't fair.   The perception among many in my feed is the opposite, so where are we...

Of course they will.  Just like CBS was held accountable for not airing left-wing views... err...

It's mob rule, like it or not.  It just isn't going to go Alex Jones' way.  It's great that you are very willing to throw your anti-government principles on the bus when it's time to get help for bugs like Jones but it likely won't work.

These companies are privately owned and operated. Why should the government regulate them because of your, or anyone else's perception. Fox news for instance is full of right wing cooks, but I don't care, I just flip the channel.

I don't support government regulation at all. I am simply not naive and can see the direction things are headed and I am providing suggestions that would help companies like Twitter keep the government out. The people being hypocrites are the people calling for regulation of right wing speech while arguing for private enterprise rights when the government complains about left wing bias.

Yes but you have to show damage and get due financial compensation.  What if you can't do that.  Saying that it's a conspiracy and the families were in on it may not impact one of the families in a tangible way.

I think the families would disagree. Probably a jury will too.

Yes, well I'm for whatever works personally.  I didn't call for the networks to be forced to put Chomsky on though.

Disagree with "may not" ?  May means it might or might not.  The point I'm making is that this route might not work every time, and is a lot to go through.

As TimG has indicated - and I agree - it's better for people to sort out behaviour and culture themselves without government intervention.

Of course not, but it could do a much better job of setting out clear, nonpartisan rules and enforcing them even evenhandedly. The damage to twitter's rep comes from the perception that reasonable right wing posters are locked out while left-wing racists are allowed to post with impunity. I can't find a link to the 'panel' of experts that twitter got to advise them a couple years ago but it was a pack of rabid SJWs. It should come as no surprise that they are under fire for bias today.

If they don't moderate Twitter properly, fairly, evenly, it could go the way of MLW  :D

Side example:

California has now outlawed all male company boards...

https://money.cnn.com/2018/09/30/news/california-requires-women-board-of-directors/index.html

That's as dumb and sexist as keeping a woman off a board because she's a woman.

We already said that government will get involved if people don't solve these problems, so TimG and I stand with our sisters on this one.   :D

Now there's a scary thought! But be careful now: apparently the BC Canada troll reads all that's written here, and I don't him to Taxme anymore especially now that global warming has raised the climate to Hotenough and I Rue the day we move far enough right to go to Hal. But it could happen I suppose, any Betsy's?

Well I guess women being forced onto boards through discrimination is better than women being forced off of boards through discrimination.  But that just creates a new problem.  But hey, that's Cali's choice not mine so whatevs.

I would at least put a timeline on these things.  Say 10 years.  So old white dudes get use to having women on boards and realizing they're actually competent.
