Infinity War (Spoilers)
« on: April 30, 2018, 10:41:44 am »
Who's seen this movie?

This was a comic book movie fan's wet dream only to have the best characters killed off at the end?

All that in the guise of environmentalism and population control.

I'm a huge fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, to see those actors working with Iron Man, Captain America, Thor etc was an absolute treat.

I honestly don't know how people can not wait until the post credit scene. I guess Google it when you get home but still. Just sit there for 10 minutes and watch it. This one set up the Captain Marvel movie in a year. That movie is set in the 90's, so obviously time travel will play into it.

Obviously we know these deaths aren't permanent. They made a point to leave the core Avengers alive (Cap, Stark, Hulk and Thor) while ones that have movies lined up died (Strange, Black Panther, Spiderman, All the Guardians except Rocket). It kind of takes the stakes out of the future movies, but it was still a gut punch to have a movie where the bad guy wins.

But for a 2 and a half hour movie, I was entertained for just about the entire thing.

Best Movie Ever.  ;D

Who's seen this movie?

I finally got out to the big movie today.

The ending was pretty ... uh...   as you say, seeing a show where the "bad guys" win... especially one where favorite characters die, can be a punch in the gut (...and yet we keep watching Game of Thrones...)

When it comes to bad-guys winning, I think Colonel Zemo "won" in Captain America: Civil War, as well... his plan worked to perfection, he got exactly what he wanted... but didn't lay waste to everyone in the way Thanos did.   Seeing the Asguardians genocided and Loki's throat crushed in the opening scene kind of set a tone.  Peter's reaction when he realizes he's dying gave me the feels. :(

Doctor Strange said he looked at a million possible futures, and only saw one where they beat Thanos.  Later he tells Stark that giving Thanos the time stone was "the only way"... I assume he meant "the only way to get to the one future where we beat Thanos" rather than "the only way to save Stark's life".

This one set up the Captain Marvel movie in a year. That movie is set in the 90's, so obviously time travel will play into it.

I hadn't realized that Captain Marvel was to be set in the 1990s.

In the comic books, I believe that Marvel's original Captain Marvel (the male, alien one named "Mar-Vell") was constantly trying to foil Thanos' plans, so it would make sense that he would tie into this somehow.   Reading through the cast of the Captain Marvel movie, I notice that they've cast Jude Law as Walter Lawson/Mar-Vell... so maybe that angle could fit into the resolution of this Thanos situation.

It's theorized that saving Stark is crucial to winning.  In the comics he wears the gauntlet, apparently.  Remember that Thanos knew him and saw a kinship in him.

And **** was that Iron Man suit amazing.

hmmm.  I remember thinking at the time, "why does he know Tony?"    I don't remember that ever happening.  What's the background of that?

"Hey, it's me! Your long lost brother, Thanos Stark!"
"Hey, I watched your TV show! I've been a fan for a long time! It's such an honor to finally meet you in person!"

I guess we will have to wait to find out what's up with that.  Robert Downey Jr has been this character for a long time... and people have been thinking he might not want to keep doing it for much longer, so I was kind of expecting this movie to be his last hurrah in this role... but I guess he's down for at least one more.

As for the suit...  I always liked the idea that he was just a regular guy wearing a piece of technology that he built...  but at present the suit seems less like a piece of technology and more like magic. He has kind of become shiny metal Superman.
