Just take the L.

Is that a selfie of you when you hear the term "whiteness?"

I watched SNL.

Kind of the same thing I felt about his standup of late.  It held my interest absolutely.  But not funny and not insightful.

Not offensive either.  It's just... controversial.

It says a lot about SNL's place in the zeitgeist taht the only place I heard about Chappelle hosting was here and no one is talking about it today.

I mean... a lot of it was about identity politics in the Zeitgeist so I don't know where you would hear about this otherwise.  I get SNL news in my Google feed so there was a lot about it.

I'm Very Online and no one in the usual circles I look to for this stuff knew or cared.

Anyway I watched his monologue and it was boring as hell. Whereas he used to have lots to stay about a lot of things, he's now just a Cancel Culture Comic and no one cares about that stuff. Even his stuff about Ye and Kyrie Irving reminded me of this:

Yeah, I agree.  But it's interesting to hear him check in on his "controversial" views... in a way.  I mean, I want to hear his rationale for saying things like "Hollywood is full of Jews" etc.  I *DO* think that there are things that are true, are not "racist" but remain unsaid and I guess I just like to check in on what's up...

The flip side is Hannah Gadsby's "standup" about how she is/was bullied and LGBTQ people deserve empathy.  Yep, interesting, I agree.  Not funny either.

Louis CK is still kind of funny and does this better than those two.  Also he touches on more interesting material, such as discrimination against ugly/fat people which is also not talked about.  "Because we are all fat"

And then there are those I can't watch because they are pure evil.  I used to love love love Cosby and now I don't want to see a picture of his face even.

I don't really care what a millionaire says about the travails of fellow millionaires, it doesn't have anything to do with the daily concerns of 99% of the population, it just doesn't.

I can tell you what it is: it gets him attention. And also, that trope is like 100 years old!

1. Well, it's about an intelligent black person's perspective on race, and racism more than his wealth.  He's wealthy because he's good at communicating so if anything that should make the talk compelling and it is, enough, to me anyway.
2. Sure, of course, but it's in the area of "said a certain way it's racist, said another way it's uncomfortable truth".  I want to hear how he navigates that, and how it lands in the context of our contemporary... uh... mores.

I thought he got rich because he was funny. His new stuff is just incredibly didactic.

I'm not sure most people are smart enough to parse the differences between "a secret cabal of Jews run Hollywood" and "a lot of top Hollywood people are Jewish." Chappelle is clearly having fun in the space between those two ideas, but he's not exactly helping elucidate the differences.

Dave Chappelle is a homophobe white supremacist and should be cancelled, just like most comedians.  College campuses are the modern barometer for comedy standards because those students have the best sense of humour in our society.  Their parents rightfully coddled them and thus they will coddle and helicopter-parent society from toxic comedy.

This was more Petersen than I could normally handle….  But it’s an excellent deep-dive into Petersen’s baffle-gab that is often quite charitable.   He listens to Petersen so you and I don’t have to!

I'm against the dictators of speech, and they've always been around.  They used to be the pearl-clutching Christian nuts, now they're the pearl-clutching wokester nuts.  All they're both concerned about is controlling other people.  GTFO.
