Guitar people
« on: March 06, 2021, 09:20:43 pm »
I've always wanted to play music, especially on a guitar. So I bought me a John Laravee six string and I'm working away at it. I don't read music but I'm getting a handle on tablature. Appreciate any advice or just hearing from others who have guitar stories.

Learn the chords in this order:
G C D A Eminor then E F B

What kind of classic boomer music do you like?

My advice:  hire Joe Satriani to give you lessons.

Learn the difference between a major and minor chord/scale (flat third and seventh note in the minor).
Practice 1-4-5 chord patterns like C-F-G, G-C-D, E-A-B, B-E-F#, etc.and smoothing out the transitions between the chords.
Now you're done

I grew up with a piano in my home but there was also a guitar. My hands are a little too mangled by fishing and such to keep up the habit especially flat-picking bluegrass. Playing music was a big social thing for myself and friends when I was younger.  We'd hit all the little music festivals we could, taking off around the island and interior in little caravans.  If we weren't listening to some band on stage we'd be joining little impromptu bands in the parking-lot or around the camp fire at night after hours. We organized talent shows and formed little bands at home and there always seemed to be a couple of electricians interested in sound systems.  It was a lot of fun.

Too bad keyboards aren't a little more portable I might have picked up a little more than chopsticks.

Instead of buying one really nice guitar out of exotic woods buy lots of extremely cheap, inexpensive guitars with bodies made out of thin particle board so that when you get mad you can smash people with your "greatest hits":
