Fascinating show on Hulu/Amazon
« on: November 26, 2023, 12:22:29 pm »
Unfortunately it leaves Hulu in less than a week, but there's still time to binge it.

Martin Rauch is an East German border guard in the first season, called Deutschland 83 and is recruited by the HVA (East German foreign intel) to take the place as aide-de-camp of a General in the Bundeswehr; just about the time that "Able Archer" is being planned.

[for the unawares, ABLE ARCHER was the code name of a massive exercise between the NATO powers in 1983. The East Germans and Russians were convinced it was real and were preparing a pre-emptive nuclear strike just in case.]

I just started watching season 2, called Deutschland '86 (the third series is Deutschland '89). It's fascinating. All the stuff that went on in the Cold War that I was too young to really be conscious of at the time. AIDS, Gorbachev, Reagan, Perestroika, etc.

Nice to be back btw. I took a vacation from political websites for a while.

We don't get Hulu in Canada although I think it's on Apple TV here.

Sounds very interesting, but sadly I do not have access to Hulu.

outside of relying on a VPN, HULU licensing... geo-restriction:

Hulu is exclusively available to viewers in the United States and its territories due to licensing agreements with content providers. These agreements restrict Hulu from broadcasting their content outside of these regions.
