I heard that if you eat lots of kale and coconut oil while you're pregnant, your baby will be born with super-powers.

Congratulations, BCC! :)

Between Trudeau increasing my taxes and the BC NDP soon to raise my taxes I'm learning to love canned mystery meat.

I'm learning to love canned mystery meat.

Has it occurred to you that the "beef", "pork", and "chicken" you currently eat may also be "mystery meat" to some degree?  Just curious.

I recall when I was younger reading news stories about young girls in Latin America developing breasts and menstruating because the meat they were eating was full of artificial hormones fed to animals to make them grow faster.  I went vegetarian for a few weeks but quit because I hated tofu.

To a certain degree.

But I have sources for local rabbit, chicken, partridge, beef, pork, lamb, venison and moose.

I often buy from a quality butcher.

It is only when I eat out and when I travel that I have my doubts.

Even then, there are times it is clear that I'm eating dog, rat, tarantula, and king beetle larvae.

When I toured the markets in Vietnam and Cambodia last December I had no problem identifying the pig brains and the chicken livers etc....

But the woman cutting the dead rats tails off with scissors: that was macabre.

Look at Mr Fancy-Pants here, with fresh venison from a quality butcher!  :P

I buy my meat from a regular grocery store, and while I'm fairly confident it's not going to kill me, it's always in the back of my head that the hormones and drugs going into these animals might not be good for me.  I don't have the capacity to grow my own food, so at some point I have to take somebody's word for the safety of what I eat. But all said, I have pretty good confidence in the scientists and the food inspectors who are supposed to make our food system safe.

I'm so fancy not only do I know the people who farm my meat but often know the animals too.

At least when I eat at home....

Dr. Oetker

"Das Pizza."  Recipes that escaped to Brazil just before the fall of the Third Reich, extracted by unspeakable means from Italian Jews. If there is a Hell, this Dr Oetker is there experiencing an eternity of torment.

I had a chocolate milkshake from Half Moon Drive in today in Lockport.  It wasn't as good as the Peanutbutter one at Lucy's in Vancouver, but still one of the better ones I've had.

At Johnny G's - note to self for next time.  They make good long islands, and they have peanutbutter milkshakes.  I'm not having another shake today, but I'll be back.

I made the best Greek salad last night - tomatoes from my garden, basil, oregano, parsley and chives from my little herb garden.  So yummy in the heat last weekend.

Bad weekend food.  Burgers, steaks, pizzas.

Bad food means bad stomach.  Banana and granola for lunch today.
