Ok, so I am trying a "Green Fairy" martini.
I have had a bottle of absinthe around for years. Made by the local Kim City Distillery Co, I'm not sure how this stuff stacks up against "name brands". The reason it has lasted me so long is that it's literally undrinkable. I bought it years ago to try the "ritual" with the sugar cube and the slotted spoon and fire and water... undrinkable. The anise/licorice taste is so overpowering.
But lately I recall seeing a recipe for a martini which involved swishing a bit of absinthe around your glass, then pitching the absinthe before you add the martini.
So I did that. A little splash of absinthe swirled around the glass and pitched.Stirred, not shaken, in the thrifty drink mixing pitcher Cybercoma recommended. A "Kimtini", with akvavit instead of vodka, as I've been making lately.
The result?
Still undrinkable.
Even the residue of the absinthe left clinging to the glass is so overpowering that it dominates the whole Kimtini.
I mean, it's not 100% awful, in the sense that I'm still drinking it, but at this point I'm basically drunk enough to drink pure gasoline. So that's not a powerful endorsement. The Kimtini is 1000% better without the touch of absinthe in it.
