Sorry the fact Canada was explicitly built on white supremacy  ...

Sorry you're wrong, though.

It was built with white supremacist arrogant elitists...

I am broken.

A lifetime news junkie, I have started avoiding listening to the news for the first time.  My feeling is that the culture is broken, that we haven't been forced to listen and engage with each other politically for a long time - with "media" forging a kind of middle way for too long.

The fringe elements have come in, and demanded we listen.  Fair enough but they are not here to deal.

As such, I am looking for new answers.

Latest idea I am exploring is 'Metamodernism' - basically acknowledging the discoveries of postmodernism but taking them back into modernism.

Social scientists have identified at least three major forces that collectively bind together successful democracies: social capital (extensive social networks with high levels of trust), strong institutions, and shared stories. Social media has weakened all three.

I'm with you.  Shady is taking a break, I thought about that, with the sun shining after another long winter I'm thinking of taking a break too.  Too much negatively.

I'm hopeful because despite the angry fringe online and on TV when I talk to most people in the real world they seem pretty reasonable about everything.  Angertainment gets the retweets and ratings, being uncontroversial doesn't.

I'm not religious but I believe in the simple beauty of the universe.  I also believe people are like celestial beings with the power to emit light into the universe like a star does, or suck all the light from their surroundings like a black hole.  Which one we choose to be is always up to us, and the light always wins out because it's life affirming and life creating.  Much harder to create a newborn through hate, and it won't survive long if not cared for.  Evolutionary psychology.  Love and creation are the building blocks of the natural world.

What if God (or whatever force created or makes up the universe) is neither male nor female, but both. And what if it's only when man and woman come together mentally, emotionally, and are ultimately physically fused (when a sperm enters the egg and a new life is created) that for that moment we become like Gods.  Ying plus yang, night plus day, a perfect whole.

Hope your family is doing well Michael :).  Maybe we should all spend more time with ours instead of worrying and arguing about all this nonsense so much lol.

1. I LOVE this both because it is optimistic and it's the first recorded instance of someone using the Hardner term 'Angertainment'
2. The world IS getting better, there's no doubt.  The internet gave everyone a megaphone to complain, which is why things seem worse.
3. We actually argue to make the world better for people.  The family is ok but my god it's hard having young kids.  I can't believe  people do this.  It's supposed to get better in a few years I understand.

Harden Democratic Institutions

Reform Social Media

Prepare the Next Generation

Recommendations from The Atlantic article.

Radio had a lot of the same problems as social media, as did print and television.

People who grew up with them understood their place in the world better than those who had it forced on them, IMO.

As such, the fighting will be adjusted to - somehow.

Except people like you are the fringe.   It is a fringe opinion that abortion is somehow akin to murder.  You like to pretend that you aren’t part of the negative fringe.

We’re not unique.  Insects have sex too.  Swans mate for life.  There’s nothing godly about it. It’s completely natural and can be explained through evolution.

Interesting idea: someone writes an article about a looming return to romanticism and doesn't provide any credible evidence...

🤔🤔🤔

Well I HOPE it's true...

Celebrating the role Indigenous and immigrant peoples played in making this country what it is and the obstacles they had to overcome (including white supremacist laws) isn't erasing history, you dumbass.

Sorry the fact Canada was explicitly built on white supremacy triggers you so much that you need a safe space where you don't have to learn real history. You should definitely keep crying about it like a ****.

Nothing wrong with recognizing their role but all nations are built on the supremacy of some group. Canada is no different.

Have you ever considered a career as a country music lyricist?

True.  Still creating life though.

Creating life and then taking life is playing God, twice.   Sex isn't just an activity to get our rocks off.

You'll notice I don't spend much time on here advocating for banning abortions.  I'm more interested in the ethics of abortions.

The Squid is a jerk so i highly doubt he cares about women, he probably just wants the right to ejaculate without a condom etc if he wants and not have to suffer the longtime consequences of those kind of irresponsible and selfish decisions.  Just like a lot of men.

Our culture is filled with self-entitlement, selfishness, self-victimhood, and an avoidance of responsibility.  Why place the burden on ourselves when it can be shifted to someone else.   That's why most voters don't care that much about government debt.  It won't be them having to pay it back so who cares right?  Gimme gimme gimme.

It's really, really easy to avoid getting pregnant.  Yes exceptions like **** exist.  But for some why bother worrying much about it when you've got a get-out-of-jail-free card.

100% of unwanted pregnancies can be avoided if guys stopped ejaculating inside and did it on the b00bs etc instead.   But no, their right to feel slightly more pleasure is more important than the safety of their partners' health or caring about killing a fetus.  Not his problem.
