Funny, a bunch of us were just talking about this.  I grew up playing Pit.  And recently we rediscovered the game.

It's easy and fun and perfect for when kids want to play, too.

The original card game commands a hefty price - I've seen the original card sets going for 100-200$.  The new sets are under $15.

That simulates being in a trading pit; is that correct?

Ever played "phase 10"?

Yes, a trading pit.  I think you can buy special Pit games geared to different areas, different commodities.

I love Phase 10.  I have it on my Kindle, it's saved me from some boring flight delays.

Sushi Go! is fun. Also check out Bohnanza if you can find it. There's a two-player version called Bohnanza: Duel, but I haven't tried that one. The original is fun with 4 players.

Card games?  Cribbage?  Are you guys 80 years old?

I kid, i kid.

Gah.....cribbage.

My man's family are all YUGE cribbage fans.  And they are all extremely competitive about it.

I can't stand the snotty, sarcastic comments they throw around during the game, the impatience with counting or strategy or when they all drive home mad because of the games.

I play with them, but I really don't give a rat's fat patootie who wins or how many times they win.

It's prolly me they are all cursing on the way home because I don't take it seriously enough.   

I grew up on a farm back in Ontario where winter nights were long and cold. A few of us who lived nearby figured a way to make things more interesting was with a chessboard. After supper I would jump on the ski doo, go pick up a school buddy and then head over to his brother in laws house where the board would be set up. The host would be first up and we'd flip a coin to see who would be the challenger. The other would visit with the lady of the house (who didn't play) and watch some TV. When you heard the word "checkmate" that was the cue to head for the table and challenge the winner. Eventually another friend decided they would like to join in so we pooled our resources and acquired a second board and men. Many a winters night went from boring to interesting as you sipped some tea and planned your strategy.
