Biblical Culture

Hmmm.... someone is theorizing with good evidence that the Biblical City of Sodom may not have been destroyed by God after all but by a Meteor hit.

What’s next?  The great flood never occurred???

These blasphemers should literally be crucified.

This interferes with my sodomy narrative.

As long as you are unobstructed in your application of actual sodomy.

The idea that Sodom might have been an actual place that was actually destroyed by an act of god ("act of god" in the insurance salesman sense, not in the biblical sense) is pretty astounding to me, actually.  I had always assumed there was no historical case that Sodom ever existed.

If you can demonstrate that Sodom was a real place that was really destroyed by a real fireball from the sky, how big of a stretch is it to propose that God made that fireball happen?

This makes a lot of sense to me.  It would make sense that many of our biblical stories are based on some kind of reality and then given an imaginary twist to involve God's wrath or miracles or whatnot in order to explain them.

I thought everyone knew that the Bible stories are essentially true accounts that were given metaphysical explanations by the priests of the era.

You did know that Moses and Gilgamesh overlapped their origin stories right?

In either case, I would want some evidence.

I think the strongest evidence points to the fact that these are made up stories.

They're not purely made up - there is some historical fact in there.

There are historical facts in Spider Man comics too.

Well, true enough.  If our culture was almost wiped out, could they tell what was real and what wasn't ?

Maybe so.

Not if we taught children that it was all real….  And made sure that any criticism of Spider Man was judged very harshly.

FYI religion is dying.

I get that you hate it, but I don't care.
