Jesus wouldn't give a **** about buying groceries. He can take 2 fish and 5 loaves and feed 5000 people, haven't ya heard.

If he owned a grocery store, his profits would be through the roof!!

Groceries are not a "nice to have"...    but shut everything down, other than essential services, then.  Make it fair.

Jesus would be in favour of being able to buy groceries.

You can't plan two days ahead? Jesus, I used to fly international before ATM's. When I had a trip I had to go to a bank and get cash from a teller, then exchange it for the local currency. If I didn't get enough, well too bad for me.

The sense of entitlement runs strong when they expect others to work stats in order to cater for their every whim.

Kwik e Marts are fine. It's the full service supermarkets that have to close. I think 4 employees is the limit they set.

It is something like that in Quebec. There are hours for larger grocery stores, not just holiday hours (ie. closed) but regular hours as well. After those hours there are some extended hours where they can work but have to limit to I believe it is 4 employees (evenings other than Th-Fri are extended hours). It sometimes leads to a backup at the cash, but the stores are not as crowded during those hours so it usually works out. I have also noticed that in the past year or two, many people are starting to use those cursed self checkouts. I have always refused to use them, and in grocery stores they usually only take cards and I prefer to use cash. Many years ago when Home Depot was on their kick to get you to use them I would let the cashier walk me through the process, but I have yet do it myself (so it wasn't really self checkout, just a cashier at one of the terminals).

Yes, but it becomes a question of what is essential.

If I am traveling, a gas station, restaurant, and hotel are essential. Do we exclude traveling on holidays - kind of defeats the purpose.

Entertainment is another one. On holidays, we like to go to the beach (lifeguards), baseball game, watch fireworks, etc.

I'm not in Manitoba...   we have grocery stores open on holidays, so I only have to plan minutes ahead.  It's called freedom.  Why do you hate freedom?   And why do you hate restaurant workers who can't have a holiday?

Did you miss this part of my post???   "... but shut everything down, other than essential services, then.  Make it fair."

Plan ahead...  buy some Jerry-cans...  bring a tent.  These people deserve holidays as much as you.

People are forced to work holidays so you can be entertained.  How elitist of you...

Often I do have a tent and in the fall just a tarp, and I don't need Jerry-cans to power my paddle.

Freedom to you means some else is supposed do work on a holiday you are enjoying just to fill your wants whether you need them or not. The fact that they may have to work to fill your wants and can't be with their spouses and kids on a holiday is unimportant. The idea behind stats is to give as many people as possible the same day off together.

Some services have to stay open, hotels and their restaurants, other restaurants are not essential. I've been stuck in countries where I had to eat in a hotel on a local stat because restaurants aren't open and even if it was more expensive, that was OK with me.  I know what it is like to be on the other side of the world during stat holidays at home. It wasn't optional in my line of work.

Some gas stations, people can't be stuck in the middle of nowhere because all the gas stations are closed. Otherwise, I always make sure my tank was full before a holiday or weekend anyway. Transportation in general has to be operating on holidays.
