Bad Idea Culture
« on: December 01, 2017, 05:43:31 am »
Post Bad Ideas here.  No Politics.

These people had an idea to take a hot air balloon over the arctic.  It didn't end well.

Ah, the Lukewarm Air Balloon, noted for its heavier-than-air buoyancy.

So you're backpacking through Australia with a bunch of others, and a strange package comes in the mail addressed to someone who used to live at that address. Inside is some sort of white powder.

Do you:

A) throw it out
B) set it aside in case the former resident returns
C) call police
D) Assume it's ****, divide it up among yourselves, and all snort it up your noses?

If you chose D) you win a no expenses paid trip to the hospital emergency room paralyzed and suffering life threatening damage!

What gets me about this is there were NINE people here, French, German, Italian and Moroccon, and they ALL decided they would snort this '****'. Every one of them! There wasn't a single brain cell among nine people that said "Uh, maybe this isn't a good idea" or even "I don't do ****".

I couldn't decide whether to post this here, or in the Conspiratard thread, or in the Worst Food Trends thread, but here goes.

Award-winning actress, celebrity lifestyle guru, and snake-oil huckster Gwyneth Paltrow apparently likes to blast coffee into her ass. And she wants you to sell you a $135 gadget so that you can blast coffee into your ass too.

Canadian doctors say:  don't.  Despite what Gwynyth says, blasting coffee into your ass is not a good idea in the opinion of Canadian doctors.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/canadian-doctors-gwyneth-paltrow-goop-coffee-enema-1.4479955

This is not the first of Gwyneth's stupid quack medicine ideas to draw the ire of doctors.  Last year her suggestion to stuff $66 jade eggs into your **** to "supercharge your sexual chakras" or some such **** earned similar criticism.

http://nationalpost.com/entertainment/celebrity/no-gwyneth-paltrow-women-should-not-put-jade-eggs-in-their-vaginas-gynecologist-says

And before that, her suggestion to buy a gadget that lets you "steam clean" your **** was similarly scorned.

There are few new ideas and the ideas we have are actually bad old ones warmed-over like:

"Let's ban and persecute and kill those who are different and not be tolerant"

Why don't we have any new ideas.

Some off the top of my hat:

How to reorganize our economy, our government, our society
Renewing old and wise ideas from the past and looking at them in light of current society
What age and youth mean to us now
Love in the age of robots

"The book is an exploration of how we should be spending our (limited) time that ultimately asserts, as the New Republic stated in a review, a "spiritual case for socialism." It's an argument that connects a rejection of all forms of religious belief to the abuses and constraints of capitalism."

Since 'capitalism' ( we don't have capitalism ) is said to be the best way for economies to self-organize, then all we have to do is find another way to self-organize... and then we can devote ourselves to spiritual socialism.  amiright ?

How do I see old Saturday Night Live commercials?

I searched for "Bad Idea Jeans" circa 1990-91.

I need to find it

Happy Fun Ball would be cool to see too.

I believe you will see Bob Odenkirk in that one - younger but funny... he would later become famous to some of us for Mr. Show, and for others as Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul.
