I agree but Christians have done some very un Christ like things over the years.

Sure i agree, but that doesn't mean it's right of course.

I'm concerned about what could happen if it was intentional. It would be really bad news whoever did it.

Yes.  Let's hope it turns out to be an accident.

It kind of doesn't matter, sadly.  People are just ignoring any event that doesn't have a divisive angle and waiting for one that does.

We are heading towards a society of mass hate and prejudice.

A little bit of good news I'm hearing today is that authorities in Paris have concluded the fire was an accident and not intentional, although they haven't provided the actual cause as yet. It also looks like the areas of the structure they have inspected thus far are still sound. If that remains consistent then they can begin the rebuilding/restoration which they say will take decades and cost billions.

Apparently sales of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" are going through the roof. Er, perhaps I should have used a different description.

How do you rebuild something from 850 years ago? The technology and materials are long gone.

Yeah - it doesn't matter.  The alt-right made this about the war on Islam.

Yes why am I not surprised that the right wing freaktards would be all over this and using it to promote hatred, especially against Muslims?  Sad!

The inferno that has engulfed the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris has been seized upon by far right provocateurs to spread anti-Muslim hate and conspiracies, even as officials said they have ruled out arson as the cause.

Certainly some of the materials are long gone. France grows no Oak trees anywhere near large enough to produce the timbers that were burned. I'm sure current technology will be able to reinforce the structure, but of course lost artworks are irreplaceable. And what certainly cannot be rebuilt into the place are the centuries of it's existence.

It's a tragic loss of culture.  However, the good thing is nobody was killed (as far as I know).  The church is just a material thing, there are more important things in this world.

Apparently there was one fire fighter who was seriously injured. I guess that's not too bad for such a serious event.

Something like Notre Dame is more than a material thing, it represents 800 years of a country’s life.

I am not a follower of any religion but when you walk through that building you can't help but be inspired by the architecture, the artistry, the craftman ship that surrounds you wherever you look. It seemed much more than a material thing to me. I had the good fortune to visit the "Sacred Family" in Barcelona as well and felt a similar hit from it.
