New Harry Potter video game just released has had huge sales.  Looks like the JK Rowlings boycotts were overblown because nobody cares.

I think its a pretty successful troll.  He made an exaggerated satirical rack with giant nipples and paralyzed a school board over their own political correctness.  Normally someone doing this would likely be fired, but they can't....

People were going to test limits eventually anyways.

I think it was a successful troll too - but he trolled the people who wanted him fired for being trans too.

That's true, a good point. It was a double-troll.  So essentially, he trolled everyone. This might be one of the most amazing trolls of our time.

Freedom is when the government tells private actors what kind of events they can host.

Tennessee becomes first state to ban drag shows

This is quite possibly the dumbest law i've ever read.  I'd wear a dress and tuck my nuts to protest this.

Meatball's book bans are working as intended where a single puritan busybody freak can get dozens of books yanked from schools.

Quote
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wants you to know he’d never dream of engaging in mass censorship. He held a recent event challenging criticism of his classroom book restrictions as a “hoax,” releasing a video suggesting only “****” and “hate” are targeted for removal.

There’s a big problem with DeSantis’s claims: The people deciding which books to remove from classrooms and school libraries didn’t get the memo. In many cases, the notion that banned books meet the highly objectionable criteria he detailed is an enormous stretch.

This week, Florida’s Martin County released a list of dozens of books targeted for removal from school libraries, as officials struggle to interpret a bill DeSantis signed in the name of “transparency” in school materials. The episode suggests his decrees are increasingly encouraging local officials to adopt censoring decisions with disturbingly vague rationales and absurdly sweeping scope.

Numerous titles by well-known authors such as Jodi Picoult, Toni Morrison and James Patterson have been pulled from library shelves. The removal list includes Picoult’s novel “The Storyteller” about the granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor who meets an elderly former SS officer. It contains some violent scenes told in flashbacks from World War II and an assisted suicide.
...
In the case of “The Storyteller” and virtually all the other books by Picoult and others that are getting removed, the county’s removal directive cites guidance from Florida’s Department of Education. It directs educators to “err on the side of caution,” urging them to nix material that they wouldn’t be “comfortable reading aloud.

The state’s absurdly vague directive seems almost designed to invite abuse, not only by school officials making the decisions, but also by parents who call for removals. Underscoring the point, documents obtained from the county by the Florida Freedom to Read Project, which were shared with us, cite one person as the primary objector to virtually all of these books.

That objector? Julie Marshall, who in addition to being a concerned parent also heads the local chapter of Moms For Liberty, a group that pressures school boards and officials to remove all kinds of materials that violate conservative ideology on race and sexuality.

Anti-woke pundit gets asked to define "woke"; brain breaks.

And when they do finally get around to coming up with a definition, this is the kind of garbage they come up with.

Quote
A radical belief system suggesting that our institutions are built around discrimination, and claiming that all disparity is a result of that discrimination. It seeks a radical redefinition of society in which equality of group result is the endpoint, enforced by an angry mob.

Or this:

Quote
Wokeness claims:
1. Western civilization and its institutions were and are discriminatory, and serve the purposes of those in power (typically, white straight men);
2. That discrimination is both historic and ongoing, and all group disparities are explained by it.

Observant people will notice the amount of work the word "all" is doing in both these definition. Because if you replace that word with something like "some" or "often," the definitions are reduced to pure statements of fact. In other words, the only way they can make "wokeness" into a bad thing is by lying about it.

Haters and crumb bums will also note I didn't address the claim about angry mobs seeking to radically redefine society but that is simply because it's a stupid claim on its face.

Whomst could have predicted

Quote
By now, it should be blindingly obvious that many red-state book crackdowns are designed to encourage the impulse toward censorship. By enabling lone actors to get dozens of titles removed from school library shelves while meeting deliberately vague criteria for objecting to them, these measures invite overzealous parents to hunt for books to purge.

A bill advancing in the Florida state legislature suggests this could create problems for Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is using book crackdowns to bolster his GOP presidential hopes. As it gets easier for single objectors to get books removed, the bans could get more absurd — and stick to DeSantis himself.

The proposal in question, which appears to have the governor’s general support, would require the instant removal of certain books targeted for objections, even before any sort of evaluative process unfolds. Advocates for free expression say this represents something new.

In lighter news, right wing nuts are seething and fuming over Bud Light doing a promo with a trans activist. Kid Rock (remember him?) posted a video of him machine gunning a couple of cases of the stuff while others have called for a boycott. Personally I only drink Bud Light after hockey (my teammates have garbage taste in beer), but I will never ever get tired of dumb **** boycotting stuff they used to love because it's woke. Soon they'll have nothing left.

I don't like the idea that we are unable to hash out moral issues so we try to do it by trying to influence corporate marketing.
