I don't like the idea that we are unable to hash out moral issues so we try to do it by trying to influence corporate marketing.

I think the corporate marketing means we've hashed out the issues already. These multibillion companies certainly aren't' leading the charge on social change, they're camp followers.

Probably not by enough people to make a difference.  I'm with Black Dog on this.  I boycott Budweiser because it tastes like horse wee, but I couldn't care less about who else drinks what I drink.

(actually, I'm allergic to beer now, but if I wasn't...)

Didn't mean to rate that post...

I don't like the idea of voting on what's morally right by buying different beers 🍺

It seems like the kind of game that could reward points for siding with an approving mob.

Can't you remove it?  I don't feel like a winner now.

That said, you understand my point was the same as yours?

Not really. It’s noise.

There’s nothing wrong with making consumer choices that align with your values.

There’s a BBQ joint in my town I was going to try until I found out they are big freedumb convoy people. I don’t want to give those folks my money.

I can't tell if they're following social trends or just looking for outrage in order to get free publicity.

If it's the former then fine, it means the marketplace will decide the ideas we normalize and accept. If it's the latter then we're screwed

Not really. It’s noise.

You literally just said you boycott a local BBQ joint because it has convoy supporting views lol.  You were right the first time.  Everyone is free to make their own consumer choices.

Of course there's nothing wrong with boycotts. And there's nothing wrong with people complaining about crazy trans folks like Jessica Yaniv in the media either.

But when these things crowd out other public social mechanics, it's a negative on the macro level.

It would be far better for us to have public conversations around morality, and moral policy, then to debate these things via Nike commercials and pictures of Rosa Parks on Pepsi cans.

It would be better for us to discuss trans policy in a public forum where wackos like Jessica or not mentioned.

And?

My point about noise is that I really doubt anyone of the chuds complaining about woke beer cans or whatever is actually following through on their boycott threats.

We live in a capitalist society and public conversations about morality will play out in that context whether you like it or not.

Besides I can't for the life of me picture what these "public conversations" you'd like to see would even look like in practice.

That's a sad reality, especially the death of imagination.

Well, can you expound on what you have in mind?

Maybe this forum without the horrible ads. Am I the only one who gets dental implants and toe fungus ads? I don't have to fungus. Why do these ads think I have toe fungus?
