The other thing about the Falcon Heavy launch that caught peoples' fancy is the payload:  Elon Musk's own Tesla Roadster is now heading towards Mars, piloted by a mannequin.  I can only imagine what some alien species will think if they find it drifting through space someday.

I think the idea bears a more than coincidental resemblance to the opening credits of the movie "Heavy Metal"...

I knew there was a reason why it looked awesome.

But it's on its way to the asteroid belt, not Mars.  I guess the GPS failed, what with it being on the wrong side of the satellites.

Didn't get the whole Kanye West thing, didn't have a ton of exposure to his work.  Then I saw this, the man has genius in him:

As a side-effect of getting into the Black Angels, I've stumbled into "The Brian Jonestown Massacre" as well.  Much like the Black Angels, their sound incorporates a lot of influences from the psychedelic era. Like the Black Angels, they sometimes borrow sounds and rhythms from Middle-Eastern and Indian music.  Like the Black Angels, I find that I like some BJM songs a lot, and find others to be total dog-****. They're quite hit-and-miss for me.

This is a Swedish version of their song "Whatever happened to them?" which for some reason became more popular than "Whatever happened to them?" to the point that people ask "Is there an English version of Vad Hande Med Dem?"
I really like this.

Also, I'm not familiar with "Run, Lola, Run", but Red seems to be in a real hurry, and I'm thinking she should just take a taxi.

Actual video footage of Sophie Trudeau from their trip to India:

And this has an amazing feel.  The guitar sound and dreamy vocals are enchanting.

There was a doc about the BJM a few years ago.  They make some great musics.

OMG OMG OMG... just found this:

"What Makes This Song Great" Episode 3 "Kid Charlemagne" by Steely Dan.  I LOVE this song, which is a kind of true story about the arrest of the king of San Francisco LSD.  I love the lyrics, the music, the acid tongue (unintentional pun)

Quote
All those Day-Glo freaks who used to paint their face
They've joined the human race
Some things will never change

Contempt for hippies.... "is their gas in the car" is the exclamation by the acid king as he tries to escape the cops, and apparently it actually happened that he ran out of gas as the cops were following him.

I will watch this later.

Perhaps because I like The Black Keys, Google Music continues to put "Black" bands into my audio streams.  Following in the footsteps of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Black Angels, and the Blackwater Fever, comes Black Mountain.

They have an interesting sound that combines elements of "art rock", '80s metal, a retro synth sound, and two vocalists. They have a male singer and a female singer, and some songs he sings, others she sings, and at times they will duet as well, which is pretty unique in the rock world.

Unfortunately, I don't find either vocalist to be very ... uh, good.  The male singer is pretty forgettable.  The female singer has a lovely and powerful voice, which she frequently sabotages by using far too much "vocal fry".  Used sparingly, it can add impact to a note... but she uses it all. the. ****. time... and it becomes a little grating.

Still, I like their sound... one hears influences as diverse as Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath and Styx and Pink Floyd in their music.

As sometimes happens when I get interested in a band, when I started reading about them I discovered that they're Canadian.  Black Mountain are based in Vancouver.

CAN-CON alert!  Stand by for CAN-CON!

The Dolly Rocker Movement was an Australian band that called it quits about 5 years ago.

This gorgeous track fits right in with the Black Angels, Brian Jonestown Massacre stuff I have been listening to lately:

And in a move that seems almost deliberately calculated to appeal to kimmy, they also created this blend of Ennio Morricone and '60s-sounding psychedelica. This is truly wonderful.

It's a bit of a change from SLAYER :)

Oh! Speaking of SLAYER ...  uh, I don't actually know any Slayer, except Buffy the Vampire Slayer of course.    But I used to like MEGADETH!

I remember once David Letterman had Megadeth as his musical guest.  Every time he mentioned that Megadeth would be performing later on the show, this big Megadeth logo appeared on the screen as the camera zoomed in on this elderly couple in the audience.  I thought it was hilarious, although I was pretty easily amused at the time.

This is the first track from the first Megadeth tape cassette I owned, which I played a lot in the first car I owned, the mighty Dodge Reliant K-Kar that I bought for $500 with the money I made from my first job.  It was a pretty bad car. With a bad stereo.  And before long the cassette went bad too because it got all stretched out.  Tragic.

This instrumental was one of my favorite "knocking stuff over" songs for a long time.

Ya, I'm not the metalhead in the relationship.   :D  I don't mind it - I listen to just about everything a little bit.

I go to his metal shows and wear my hippie clothes and he comes to my flamenco shows and wears a Godsmack t-shirt.  It works.  ;D

Fleetwood Mac is my favourite.  Love Van Morrison.  I listen to a lot of Spanish and flamenco music.  Especially when I'm cooking.
