Ok, so I just bought a new used van and it comes with a single key with FOB attached. How do I go about ordering a 2nd one ? I hear manufacturer copies can be $200, which is ridic, but there are other options.
Some vehicles allow you to pair additional fobs, usually up to a maximum limit. Check out your manual, or places like automotiveforums.com to see if there is a process for your vehicle. The process usually involves things like turning the ignition on/off a few times, maybe opening and closing the drivers door, etc. and then pushing a sequence of keys on the new fob. European vehicles are usually better at this than American ones because the American car companies want to lock you into buying expensive options from them. There was a California law a few years back that tried to change this, not sure what became of it.
