Re: A rather lengthy introduction...

I noticed we didn't have an introductions forum, so I'm posting this in General Discussions.

Someone in a forum asked who in blazes am I, so I'll introduce myself.

My name's Colin, age 40, from Maryland (United States, east coast). My moniker "Super Colin Blow" comes from an old "commercial" on Saturday Night Live ("You need to eat 7 bowls of 'Total' to equal the amount of fiber in new 'Super Colon Blow!'").

Interests include reading, playing games like Diplomacy, Monopoly, Mahjong (but not the womanly corruption of the original Chinese game prevalent at retirement homes), and other ways I can get myself into trouble like drinking (and I get drunk easily). I'm big into history, particularly those of Rome, Byzantium and Egypt. American history mostly bores me.

Fascinated by parliamentary democracies (like Canada) and laughing at the bullshit antics and hypocrisy of politicians in general. In fact, I used to be a poli sci major at first, but then I decided to change my major to something more "manly" (as a classmate of mine put it). However, I dropped out of college (UMBC) in 2011, at the tender age of 33, after struggling with it, on and off, for quite some time. Currently between jobs for a while.

I have a rather broad exposure to foreign languages (four years of French and one of Japanese in high school, two semesters of German and two of Arabic in college) but never enough in one language to be fluent in it. Never met a language I didn't like.

Never played sports, never interested in them, even just watching them. Was a band geek in high school as well as President of the SGA (the student council).

Apparently, I can speak in public very well (when scripted), so I ran for the Board of Education for our county when I was 20 (last place out of 9 in the primary, oh well).

Gay, so thank God I don't live in Utah or Texas. Unlike most gays in the United States, I'm a moderate unaffiliated voter--so California would annoy me as much as Utah or Texas. From 1996 (first time I voted at 18 yo) until the middle 2000's I was a Republican, however. The last presidential election pissed me off, not just because Trump won but because of how bitter and divisive it was.

Favorite books: The First Man in Rome (Colleen McCullough), the Dirk Pitt series (Clive Cussler), a few of the 007 books (Ian Fleming), 1984 (George Orwell), The Lord of the Rings (J.R.R.R.R. Tolkien), The Prince (Niccolo Machiavelli), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and its sequels (Douglas Adams), Jurassic Park (Michael Crichton), the Navajo Police mysteries (Tony Hillerman), 2001 and 2010 (Arthur Clarke) and others.

Lots of favorite movies including Dr Strangelove and Team America World Police.

TV: I have a few favo(u)rite Britcoms (i.e., "British sitcoms") such as Blackadder, Yes [Prime] Minister and Are You Being Served. I also like Family Guy, the Simpsons, Star Trek & its spinoffs and others I can't think of off the top of my head, various historical documentaries.

That's probably enough for now. Ask me any questions you like.
I remember that Colon Blow commercial. It was from 1988, and started the late Phil Hartman. Super Colon Blow gave you 10,000 times the recommended daily fiber intake.
If Omni, Impact, and the_squid ever had a love child, I would be him
