I am not even a 'horror' guy and I have seen almost 1/2.  The list has flaws, but what's your experience with horror films ?

One of the last ones on the list is The Witch, an atmospheric historical fiction that is pure creep-art.  Love it.

I keep meaning to see The Witch, especially now that it's on Netflix. Worth a watch? I don't have a ton of time to watch movies these days, so I just get angry now when I get invested into something that sucks.

Let the Right One In (2008) and Let Me In (2010) are the perfect examples of how Hollywood can mess things up. The former is the original created in Sweden. It had tense storytelling and a really creative plot, especially considering the love for the Twilight books at the time. It was both touching and terrifying. The Americanized version of the movie stuck mostly to the plot of the original, but introduced quite a bit of computer-generated effects that I feel took away from the film. John Carpenter is known for his horror being so over the top that it becomes dark comedy. The CG made what was an otherwise interesting story too over the top. More action is not always better, but I guess it helps if your audience has a short attention span.

The Witch is slow, creepy and atmospheric.  I thought it was great but it is a very deliberate type of story and needs your full attention to appreciate it.

Good. That's what I like. I'll have to check it out sometime.

There are lots of threads I could have posted this on but how about here:

https://www.goethe.de/ins/us/en/kul/mov/ies.html?wt_sc=wunderbarfilms

The Goethe institute is celebrating German Film by allowing FREE Streaming of 48 classics.

Quote
If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’ve seen the German Expressionist classic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. As soon as Robert Weine’s 1920 film came out, it was described as essential. Or as one reviewer wrote, “so-called cultured people who fail to see it are neglecting their education.”

I have never seen Caligari but it is supposed to be THE seminal horror film, so I intend to watch it.

Also - this film captures one of the most insane acting jobs in history, by Klaus Kinski:

Aguirre, The Wrath of God (1972)
