I still can't believe that I bought a house 🏠

Is it sad statement of our times that you feel this way?  As far as I know you're not a young man in his 20's.

I would think that people living with their parents into their 30's and even 40's (i'm not saying MH you did this) is not good for the housing industry, it means people aren't moving out and buying homes.  So developers are making a killing on profit per home, but they aren't selling as many homes as they could be if they were more affordable.

I guess they'd prefer to build and sell fewer and sell them for higher per home.

I think the banks have a lot of power in this country, as do real estate developers.  I think they keep our corruption VERY well hidden in this country, as do our politicians.
