Since the demise of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, I will vote for the Green candidate.

I'm leaning Green, as well.

If you don't mind me saying... that's kind of a weird jump.

Granted, the old Progressive Conservative party was seen as closer to the political center than the current conservative party (not sure if that's really true.. but it seems to be the common thought). But the Green Party (in its current incarnation) is fairly far to the left. Wouldn't the Liberal party have been a more natural fit in terms of policies?

What specific polices of the Green party do you consider left?

I could be wrong about this (a lot of this is from memory)... But the green party:
- wants to ban handguns
- Is pro union
- wants to increase corporate taxes
- Wants to reduce military spending

Granted, their economic and foreign policies often get overlooked because of the party's focus on the environment (which itself would be considered fairly left wing.)

We have made a lot of progress  in cleaning up some of our bad environmental habits since the '70's. Remember the 'air pollution' environmentalists back then who finally got governments and business on board? Where I sit right now used to be brown smog. It isn't anymore. Would you like to go back there?

Environmentalists are not anti-business. We know we need business for jobs, a good economy, comfortable lives. We are simply opposed to businesses that damage the environment and the ecosystems that sustain human life.
If we are draining every last resource and damaging and destroying the environment and human lives, that is not sustainable business, not a sustainable economy, not a sustainable society.

Environmental issues are mainstream now. All Parties mouthe the words. Liberals and Conservatives just don't do much about it because their Party funding depends on the 'status quo' business communities. (Eg, SNC-Lavalin, Oil industry, etc)

Not good enough.
Environmentally destructive businesses just are not good enough anymore.Nor are those that mistreat, underpay and undervalue employees while hardass CEO's get richer and richer every year, nor those that bribe public officials.

We need entrepreneurs and businesses with a better approach, developing businesses for the future that are sustainable economically, environmentally and in terms of their humanity toward employees and social responsibility to their communities.

Now who could ever really disagree with that very balanced, very Canadian ideal?

Greens are pro-business, supporting good businesses that are innovative and  sustainable, that provide good jobs and a healthy future for the generations to come.

The Greens are the only Party that actually has a focus on that and planning towards that.
Greens are not 'left' or 'right'.
They are not ideologically based, but reality based.
They are the most balanced 'centrist' Party we have.

no track record - no Green Party has ever governed... anywhere - at best, as I'm aware, having isolated members elected in European jurisdictions, principally to municipalities! As I'm aware, the Netherlands GroenLinks over 30 years is the most representative of "Green gains"; in the most recent Parliamentary elections: in the House 14 of 150 elected as GroenLinks... 8 of 75 elected in the Senate... 61 of 570 elected in Provincial elections. After 30 years, if that's the best the party of self-proclaimed "environmental stewards" can do???

How are handguns or military spending related to left/right politics?

Or environment?   Other than being a science denier does seem to be a right-wing issue about environmental science.

But for the most part, reasonable people, left or right, don’t deny science.  It’s a fringe group of right wingers.

Conservatives tend to like shooting stuff and bombing stuff more than treehuggers.

That can change ... but also, having more Green representation in Parliament can change conversations there too ... especially in a minority government.
All good.

I actually forget who I voted for. Liberal or NDP. I must be getting old.
