What's wrong with government
« on: November 06, 2018, 09:36:35 am »
This is a story from the Alberta legislature, and about the NDP. But it could just as easily be from the federal liberals, or the Harper Tories. It's what's wrong with our parliamentary system and the trained sheep we have for MPs, barking and clapping on demand. Rather than representing their constituents to parliament they become their party's ambassador to their constituents.

Without reading this, I can tell you I will LIKE it  :D

Parliament is a ridiculously outdated machine, and is severely detached from those it's meant to serve.

My reform plan as I have said:

- Move services out of the political realm as was done by Canada Post, and put all-party oversight, over a board of directors responsible for achieving goals with value.  Enforce a requirement for public engagement to measure service levels and costs.

- Move 'moral' issues out of the political realm also

- For everything else - create nonymous online discussion groups at the riding level, and make the MPs answerable to discussions.

So the NDP MLA who complained of being constantly bullied by her premier's office and that she had no freedom to say or vote or do what she wanted, has been expelled from the NDP caucus.

“I have felt bullied by the NDP for over three and a half years and it must stop.

“Under Rachel Notley’s leadership, every power that MLAs are supposed to have to be able to represent their constituents in the legislature has been taken away or denied from the start.”

NDP didn't have much of a choice, to be fair.

No, but my point in posting that wasn't to specifically criticize the Alberta NDP. I'm quite sure the situation she describes is identical in the Tory party, and at federal levels, at all three parties. It's a wildly undemocratic system.

Fortunately, we have Justin Trudeau, who is going to empower MPs and give parliament and its committees back their importance and independence!

Isn't he? I mean, he said he would...

The idea that one political party holds a moral high ground on another is bullshit.  Moral questions such as inclusion for newly identified groups, like LGBT, should be a 'free vote', and given a path for acceptance independent of politics.  It's not a way for one party to gain advantage and sow division.  The Liberals' branding of themselves as morally superior is dishonest and attaches political divisiveness to recognizing human rights.  It's a terrible approach.

We should get rid of party politics, but until we do that then they get to set their agenda.

If they cared about Canada they would get together and do this.  I don't see how it helps any party that much, and it really would help everyone if they didn't do it.
